CCC to combox bluetooth

My father has an 07 E90 335. We originally wanted a non I-drive car but this deal was too good and sadly it has it. It has the CCC system which is pretty outdated and useless. We both are very good mechanically and would rather rebuild an engine 10 times over vs wiring/electronics but here we are. I have done lots of research but with so many options I'm still unsure on the specifics for our car so some help would be appreciated. If there is a thread/DIY that is exactly like mine then just point me to where I missed.

We have looked into the CIC retrofit to make using the radio a little simpler and easier for both of them and have decided to add bluetooth while we are at it(did not come with it). This is the options the car came with:

S609A Navigation System Professional
S620A Voice Control
S640A Preparation F Telinstallation Universal
S677A HiFi System Professional DSP
S693A Preparation BMW Satellite Radio
S694A Provisions For BMW 6 CD Changer
S645A BMW US Radio

We are just collecting the hardware to start; So far for bluetooth the car is pre wired(including some/all trunk connections), and voice command so it has a Mic installed. I have grabbed a bluetooth antenna and a MULF(HI)+TCU(which I will be selling).

I have also grabbed a CIC screen and Combox(telematics). I will be grabbing the cable from CIC screen to unit, glovebox usb and cable and the 6FL cable and glovebox usb port shortly. Yes I do know I will still need the CIC unit, controller and trim. Is there any special adapters needed for the CIC retrofit because of combox?

Because my car did not have bluetooth and no MULF/TCU. Will the combox be plugged into the wires in the trunk or do I need a specific set of wires for behind the glove box? and extra wires Id need to run from the CIC to the combox?

Parts are being grabbed from parts cars so the more I can grab from the car, makes it much cheaper than buying second hand or new. Thanks again!

All US cars came with pre wiring up until and including 09.
Don't know about Canada but use a Vin checker and your eyes
to find out.

Provision or Prep means the wiring is in place .
Most Bus connection need to rerouted to include the new
devices at the Most Hub and the fuses may be missing
for those items.

the wiring for this stuff will be under the trunk floor cover behind the
passanger seats.

If you upgraded to and NBT bluetooth streaming and a lot of the Internet
stuff is integrated into the Head Unit so no separate modules are needed.
Ebay has a lot of mulf hi's and some comboxes.

There are conversion harnesses that convert wiring from TCU/mulf to
combox.

I added a picture from the trunk. The car was pre wired but were there different pre-wires? for mulf, tcu or mulf tcu? or were all pre wires the same.

If they are the same then im way over thinking it and can just get the adapter that they sell for the pre-wire to combox? no other wires to run thru the car. The MOST hub I believe you mean that green loop? That I can do at a later date. Right now I'm just interested in grabbing all the hardware I need from the cars as I can get it all for peanuts $$$

Car is the Top-Hifi stereo I believe.

Nicko43 was selling kits for this he might be able to help
you with odds and ends and programming.

The combox and the CCC have to be at the correct software levels
for them to play together I believe.

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1292250
or the conversion cable listed next should make things easier.
https://www.bimmerretrofit.com/store...&product_id=73

You can have both a TCU and a Mulf stacked in the location you pictured
so that is why there are so many cables there.

Get the Bimmergeeks cable and set up Inpa and Ista D
You will need Inpa and standard tools suite for programming.

Find a late build date CIC from a E92, E93 or E84. 2012+ on the CIC sticker should be fine. The PNP adapters are not very plug and play. I would buy just the combox connector from the dealer or better yet snip one off of a used car. For the repin you only need power and the mic wiring. For the HSD cables ONLY USE OEM CABLES! Do not buy aftermarket and only buy them from the dealer. I will add parts numbers a little later.

Thanks for your reply! I didnt realize repinning back there was an option

The parts we have gotten are from a 2011 E92. We don't technically need this(Its more of a because we can) so the parts are being grabbed cheaply and what is available; We have spend $15 so far(CIC screen, combox, TCU/MULF2 HI) and the rest of the wiring I can get out of the car for nothing.

I can absolutely grab the rest of the wires and connectors from the car, So I would assume those are oem. I have read the connectors in the trunk will work if you trim the plastic part the combox. Looks like my wiring is missing the blue connector which I assume is the USB/6FL and runs from the center console to the combox?

I would pull the carpet and grab the 6fl wiring. For the display cable and glovebox usb it will be a pain to untape the wire from the dash harness.

Question about your combox setup!

I have an e93 Canadian car prod date 04/2008. My trunk wiring for the satellite and (prewire) for TCU/MULF look the same as yours. My car has L7 sound and sat but no TCU or MULF installed

I’m sourcing parts to perform a Bluetooth install and CIC. Question...When you installed your combox, did you do this in the trunk or glovebox? Also, did you use the white, black and magenta TCU wires that were already there? I’m trying to figure out what those are used for, when doing the combox conversion. I already have a TCU-MULF to combox converter plug, as well as several other parts to do the combox and CIC upgrade.

You can install the combox in the TCU spot (I'm not sure where that is in an e93, I think it's under the rear seats?). You will need to install the bluetooth microphone (I think it's above the steering column in an e93?), bluetooth antenna and loudspeaker (under the steering column) and the TCU bracket to hold the combox. If your setup is like the one above, the MOST port will need to be activated at the junction box as well. You will only use the white wire (bluetooth antenna); you don't need to connect the black and pink wires (emergency / 2G antenna) as BMW assist no longer works for 2G equipment.

BTW I don't know what the OP did, but you don't need to retrofit 6FL (USB in center console), it's strictly optional. If you just want bluetooth, just do the CIC and combox. I found that 6FL was one of the more difficult parts of the retrofit and I never use the USB...

Also, since you have satellite radio, you have a unit in the trunk (I think trunk, never sure with e93) which will become disabled when you advance the build date for the combox (2010 cars have satellite receiver in the headunit). If you want to keep satellite functionality, you will need to extend the satellite antenna to the headunit and you will need a headunit with a 6F FSC. (or get a CIC headunit with C1A firmware, and use CIC patcher to insert your own 6F certificate)

Maybe that’s where I went off track. I attempted this install today and had a coding session going but the tech said my fiber optics were not configured correctly. So does that mean that by adding the combox, the satellite radio unit becomes a brick and its MOST connector needed to be terminated with a loop adaptor?

Second, when I pull back the back seat side section by the shoulder belt I don’t see any MOST junction box like moat cars seem to have. That means I either didn’t find it or don’t have it (likely the former)?

Third, getting the FSC certificates...dealer only?

I can tell you that once I had the CIC, screen and combox installed, there was no sound from the speakers. After putting the car back to original CCC, everything (including sound) worked again

Your install is going to to be tricky but is doable. Is your cider willing to work in stages? If not, consider learning to do the coding yourself, I have a DIY in the DIY section of this forum.

First you should install just the CIC. This will not require reconfiguration of your MOST bus. Get the unit coded correctly with a build date of 09/09. You should be getting sound from your speakers.

To get FSCs, there are vendors that offer them cheaper than the dealer (I think bimmertech?) but they’re still thousands of dollars. You may want to consider an emulator or script activation if your unit is not flashed to C1A but you may lose satellite radio.

Once you have your CIC working (FSCs or not), proceed to the combox. The combox is the step requiring reconfiguration of your MOST bus. You will have to find the junction box (ask the e93 owners where to find it). Disable the satellite port and enable the TCU port. Then proceed with retrofitting the combox and coding.
