I installed the AP tonight in my parking garage at work. The install went smooth and as represented. It took about 20 minutes. I put about 15 miles on the car with the agressive map slected, I didnt bother with the sport map.

The tune is very smooth with good top end power - the car pulls hard. The DCT was shifting at about 6500 which seems earlier than it shifted with the PPK. With the PPk I felt that I got better perfomance if I shifted manually earlier than when the DCT shifted in auto. But with the cob it seems like it shifts at the right time and a few hundred RPM earlier than before.

The throttle seems less linear than the PPk - so it makes a seat of the pants review more difficult since an aggressive throttle always seems like its making more power.

Taking that into account the difference in power between the Cobb and the PPK is at least the same or a little greater than the difference between the stock car and the PPK. Said another way, the PPK takes you about half way or a little less to the Cobb tune. It makes the car feel pretty quick, lots of tq., The exhaust is even more aggessive sounding than the PPk with a fair amount of burble and snap, keeping in mind that I have the PE. Sounds really good and aggessive but not over the top to my ears

Overall its a very nice smooth tune - I am very happy I got it. I dont have any experience with the JB or Proceed products so cant comment on any comparison with them. But its a good quality product. Cant wait to drive it some more tomorrow

So you still have the PPK software loaded into your car? In other words, the PPK is acting as you 'stock' tune with the Cobb program, right? I might take the plunge on the Cobb once the inevitable bugs are worked out but already have the PPK. I just want to verify that this causes no issues or that the AP doe not clear out the PPK tune. I really like my PPK but it would be nice to have a bit more.

Pretty sure any tune involving flashing the ECU will wipe out an existing ECU tune.

I don't want to give up my PPK as a backup plan in case I don't like this tune. Looks like the 'sport' setting on this Cobb is pretty darn close to the PPK numbers. I guess I will just stay with the OEM tune.

There will be better and stronger maps with some time. Be patient. These are just stage 1 maps

I'm not sure it flash over, I think it saves the stock map in the AP and then restore it, ask Cobb about it.

Forget about the "PPK is close to Cobb", its not, Cobb might be a mild tune right now (pretty sure its at least 4 psi higher than your PPK) and its about day 1 of Cobb n55, stronger maps are around the corner anyway.

I would still confirm you can save your PPK tune, but I don't think you will ever want to look back anyway, power is addictive...

I too have the PPK and would like to see if this "saves" it. If so, I'm in!

The Cobb AP saves the stock ECU data before it installs the 'cobb tune'. It will re-install the stock ECU data when you un-install the cobb tune.

Wouldn't it save the data that is currently on the ECU (including PPK)?

Yes. Sorry that's what I meant. By 'stock' I meant it will save whatever ECU settings you previously had. So if you have the PPK, it will save the PPK settings .

This is my understanding. It downloaded and saved the ecu data then loaded in the Cobb maps. I haven't tried going back to my stock setting yet but fully expect it will be the PPK settings. I too love my PPK tune but don't think I will go back to it. Really loving the extra power from the Cobb tune. As I say, I only have 15 miles on it at this point, need to live with it for a while but so far so good

So you noticed a nice upgrade of the PPK? That's awesome! Can you give any more detail? I have a feeling it will only be a small number of us doing from PPK to Cobb.

The AP will read off and save the PPK, put out tune on, then during uninstall it will put the PPK back.

Our stage 0 should provide a stock power level to test with as well.

Cheers,
Rob

Yes it is a very nice upgrade over the PPK. I was kind of worried that it wouldnt be that much of an upgrade - but it is very noticeable. Big improvement, I am really happy with it. I used the logging feature of the AP and logged my boost on some wide open runs from about 5 mph. Peak boost logged was 17.2 lbs. The car has some serious yank now. No regrets.

I might actually buy one once the bugs are worked out.

However it concerns me that I drive a, as far as I know, uniquely modified car in that I have a base(non-sport) model 335i which had the stage 2 PPK installed at the dealership. So my car has some things on it which it normally wouldn't, like the additional water and oil coolers as well as the upgraded fan.

Will this cause problems?

I am sure we will need to add support for some of y'all. If anyone runs into a situation where the AP does not recognize your ROM revision, please follow the instructions in the link below:

One more noob question, but does the AccessPort remove the CEL that comes up when a catless downpipe is installed?

I bought one from mod bargains.com They said it would ship December 12 but now it won't until sometime next week. Never deal with with these people again.

Just to make sure, is this flash also undetectable such as the n54 version?
