New BMW Owner: 2006 325i

First time BMW owner after the Fazda I bought new in high school had to be sent to the farm.

Doing my best to figure out how best to move forward. Had a local BMW/Mini shop give me an assessment that was less than acceptable. Bought a Carly and I'm hoping someone else has had a similar result. Checking individual codes as a fresh BMW owner is resulting in more possible answers than would be preferred.

Just hoping someone has seen some of these batch together or some advice to tackle this. Feel free to make a fool of me as Googling has led to more questions if anything.

Be concerned mainly with engine and transmission codes.

Just do a search for 002A82 error code. Start buy cleaning the VANOS solenoids.
And the Vanos check valves if the engine you have has them.

I would do a oil and filter change at the same time. And make sure all the O rings are installed correctly as low oil pressure with cause issues.

Did another scan for giggles about an hour ago and strangely gave more than just the general comms issue. I'll take that over wondering whether there was something odd going on with the ECU.

If you battery goes flat and you try cranking engine, the BMWs seem to log all sorts of errors. Make sure battery is fully charged, clear codes and read again and make sure everything is clear. Take the car for a quick drive and then do another read and see what comes up.

Finally got my oil filter wrench (used one of the strap things when I changed the oil and it was a pain). Seems the o-ring was moved when inspected. Moved it back into the proper groove, cleared codes, drove around for a solid 45 minutes, and we are left with 2 codes right now.

A554 I need to code away because of aftermarket radio that was installed well before I bought the car.

AHAHHAHAHAHAHA. I CHANGE MY ONCE A YEAR ONLY. EVERYONE LOVES 5000 mile changes. Usually its 10,000 to 13000 for me

Everyone's got an opinion on it, and usually without any evidence to back up their positions.

Opinions range from: "Well, my brother didn't change his oil for 6k miles and his ____ blew up on him, see, I told ya to change every 17 miles or else." to: "Oil changes are a BP/Texaco conspiracy".

Just use synthetics (LL-01 if you can still find it, but otherwise Castrol/Mobil1/Pennzoil that you get on sale with the right viscosity is fine) and a good filter (Mann/Mahle) and change with whatever frequency you're comfortable with.

Depending on driving condition, not changing your oil on time will cause sludge build up and can effect Vanos system. Don't go past 7500 miles without changing oil. And forget this long life BS. You can even use the cheaper amazon basics branded oil.

I have data. 396,000 miles of data. The CBS oil life monitor works until 186,000, then it goes defunct. Around 221,000 is when CBS oil life monitor will not reset and will constantly remind the driver the car is past due for an oil change. I followed the CBS up to that point and my average OCI was over 17,000 miles. At 221K I switched to 10K OCI which I'm still at. My engine has 396,000 miles on it and uses about 2.5L of oil between changes. I've only used BMW oil and OE or OEM MANN oil filters.

The CBS system dictates the oil change interval using an algorithm and an oil quality sensor to determine the level of contamination. So the engine either gets an annual oil change if you drive it less than 10,000 to 12,000 per year, or gets a longer OCI if the car is driven a lot of miles per year.

5,000-mile OCI are a joke. 7,500 miles is pretty much industry standard.

I think it has a lot to do with oil quality and conditions the engine it run at.

I had bad experience with Mobil 1 synthetic around 10 years ago. Engine oil looked jet black(ink) and thinned out after 5000km. Usually brown and thicker. Most likely bad batch of oil but lifter damaged and valve train making lots of noise.

But your right, you can go longer OCI but depends on oil quality and how you drive the car. And I was assuming the OP car was turbo N54 engine. From what I was told turbos break down oils quicker.

With winter included in 12 months i do 10k km interval. Why even bother doing it more frequently?

We all gonna crash our bmw's sooner or later anyways.

10k km interval is fine for NA motors.

But if I drive 335i in city area under heavy traffic in summer, I don't think the oil will last long. Not 10k km that is. The oil cooler needs to have the car moving.
