Shipping part from US to Canada

So recently I priced out a few body parts that I want to get from Tischer and someone suggested having the courier go to Tischer and pick up the part to get shipped over.

I went ahead and priced the whole thing from UPS and Fedex. This is what the break down is:

Price of Parts: $755USD
Assuming with credit fees and such exchange rate is .95CAD to 1USD
Tax is 13%, Duty is 13%, Brokerage is $57.74CAD(UPS), Shipping cost(UPS)$212.42CAD. Grand Total comes to $1263.58

If I went with Fedex which refuses to go to the dealer and pick it up, brokerage and shipping is $210.

This is with the parts totally declared, but no insurance on either shipping methods. With tax, duty, brokerage, and shipping cost being so high, doesn't it defeat any point in buying from the US or is there something I'm missing.

I also went to parkview and had this priced, and it costs $1282.79CAD including tax.

An alternative is shipping this to the border holding places and then picking it up there. How much would one of those places charge to hold a part for a few days? There may be savings if I install it in the US as well. Then I only have to pay for the shipping place to hold it, shipping cost to that place and the tank of gas to go there and pick it up.

Any suggestions?

I am interested in this as well. Thinking of picking up an mtech bumper. No idea what's the best way to go though.

since the price is relatively close, I would consider parts warranty as a big factor, in case something goes wrong.

It would be easier to do it from Parkview. Less headaches.

if they hold item for you, its around $2 per package, they can hold upto mostly 2 weeks,
if it passes 2 weeks there is like additional charges.
Personally I would ship it to around border area and pick it from there....

What parts are you shipping and I am assuming this is shipped via UPS or Fedex ground?

If a part is intended to replace one on your car does that mean that there wouldn't be any duty?

I'm trying to order the aero lip + m3 rear spoiler. This is shipped via UPS or Fedex ground. I'm going to try European Auto, the last thing I want to do is have it all shipped and painted and the colours don't match and I have nothing I can do, but my car is less than one year old so shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm also strongly considering installing the parts in the US before crossing the border. I'll just have to bring some 3M tape with me.

Can anyone recommend a place close to Toronto from across the border? I've heard of USAddress.com and CBIusa.com. Any good or bad experiences with these two places?

I have used the Hold for pick solution on some shipments in the past. Depending on the UPS or possibly FedEx (I used UPS) loaction. There is no charge for this service, I used a UPS distribution center in Platsburgh in upstate NY. Once the package arrives at their location you have 5 days to pick up your pacakge if you don't they will ship it back (this is what I have been told!).

Since Tischer offers free shipping on many items this may seem like a good option depending on the item, declared value, etc, etc...

Depending on where you live you also have the option to clear customs yourself therefore in your case saving an additional 57$. Is it worth it? I guess it all depends on on how much your time and effort is worth vs. the $ savings! In my case the wheels was a good deal as I also ordered tires from Tirerack so I double dipped!!!

I might be doing this for the wifes 5 series, I would like to install the mtech kit and will price to whole thing in time.

I use CBI and the owner Dave is a cool guy and easy to work with regarding all your shipments. However, for rims/tires its easier to ship them straight to a tire shop. I know alot of guys who use Mike @ 24 Hour Tire & Auto Service. Just ship to your rims/tires to his facilities and he'll hold them for you free of charge since you're gonna use him for install and his prices are A+.

european auto is a BMW authorized body shop in Toronto. You can google their information and just ask for pricing for the mtec kit. Not sure if they ship though so you may have to plan a trip to Toronto for the install etc...

UNITED PARCEL SERVICE
214 BANKER RD
PLATTSBURGH, NY

Is the location in question.

As I said the seller/shipper must write:

"Hold for pick up" on the shipping label.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll try it.
I've always thought that I needed to pay to get a box or something.

If you leave near Montreal, you can use this service for a very cheap 3$ by box.

Sounds very, very interesting !
Do they charge the same amount for every packages, or does it varies ?
As seen, if by UPS or Fedex, no pre-registration ?

I think I'll get some things ...

I called them last week and they tell me the price is 3$ for a maximum of 70lbs by box.

I have ordered a set of wheels and tires so I will be able to confirm this in a few days.
