325d LCI Code Help

Hi, I've posted a few threads on this subject but the problem has reappeared... so a month ago I had the EGR cleaned out by the garage. It wasn't removed and cleaned, just blasted through with their carbon cleaner(?) I am not too sure all I know is it wasn't removed.

Anyway a month later and the problem has resurfaced. Occasional stutter and hesitation etc. Just been over to have the codes read and it is showing:

40E9 - Exhause gas return valve, position control

40D4 - Exhause gas return valve, position control

4501 - Exhaust feedback regulation

4C9E - Exhaust gas recirculation adjuster, plausibility

Can anyone shed some light on these codes? I'm thinking the EGR may need removing and cleaning properly? Or does it require a replacement? Or maybe just a remap and EGR delete...

Thanks anyone for the help.

Either remove it and clean it properly, or have the function mapped out as long as the EGR valve does shut properly. Then you can just forget about it. I had mine mapped out.

Yeah I am thinking of getting it out to clean but I am worried that the codes will keep coming back. I imagine it should be fine after removing it though as opposed to just blasting it without removing.

Garage List
If they didn't remove it then they couldn't have cleaned it much, I would suggest removing and cleaning properly. With the cooler attached, you can only pull out the EGR so far, and its really not a lot, not enough to clean thats for sure.

I also remember a thread not long ago about the cam lobe/shaft sticking, this is under the black cap you can see on the EGR when looking into the engine bay, it was suggested some grease would help any sticking on the lobe/shaft.

Mine also needs a good clean as I'm suffering a little hesitation from time to time.

Thanks for the tip, yeah I think removing it for a clean is the way to go. I will keep in mind the point about the sticking as I've not read that before. Thanks for the info! The hesitation is a nightmare isn't it!

All of them codes were there before it went in originally I think, they managed to not come on for a month after so my best guess is that they did clean a good amount out but without removing the EGR they obviously couldn't do a proper job of it. So there's probably a load of soot still in there needing cleaning out.

its not really soot,,its a gooey mess,,ie damp exhaust gas/fuel mixed with soot,,it clogs up on the sides and any surface,,,if you clean it wear gloves,,i got a load on my face once..long story,,look like a dalmation dog,,and a strawberry afterwards after all the scrubbing ha ha

Haha thanks for the heads up. Is it a difficult job to do yourself? I have heard that getting to the EGR itself is the hardest bit?

Awesome thanks, I have seen a few videos online about it on the n57 so I will be able to find something to use as a guide!

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I had the car remapped with an EGR delete and that sorted it! Other than that I don't know what the solution could be.
