If they are like the rich people in CT they drive 1990s Toyota Camrys and never spend any money haha.
When Sam Walton was the richest man in the world he drove his old Ford F-150 with the dents and dog and all.

Given global choices I probably would have gone for a 320d if I could have. I did buy a new M235i, and while it was fun, I ultimately found it rather boring. Too easy to reach license melting speeds without even thinking about it. In Europe, it was awesome, here, it just felt like being held back all the time. Like a hobbled race horse. If I want to get flung around and feel some g's - I will buy a ticket to Six Flags, it's a lot cheaper.

It would not be "prudent" for me to buy a $150K car, but I could do it. It would just have to be my ONLY car. And this sure as heck would not do as my only car. Ultimately, to me once you get beyond $50-60K, it's just too steep of a hill of diminishing returns. When a $50K M235i is fast enough to send you directly to jail - why do you need anything faster than that? More expensive than $50K mostly just shows that you *can*. I don't need to show that with a car.
I think the big power that everyone got addicted to killed the art of momentum driving, why pick the perfect line and perfect shift thru a turn if you can just mash the accelerator on exit and make up all that time you would have gained in your pitiful N/A engine and feeble humanoid shifting skilz. And with that, sprinkle on some EPA regs and the MT was dead.

Like you I could have any of these I wanted, I'm only lacking the want part.

It’s pretty remarkable. And my only experience is with the regular M5. Very cool car. I can see the appeal as an all-rounder. Incredibly fast in a straight line, but more than competent in corners (obviously).

My bro that got me into the bimmers has among others a '03 M5. It's tame by todays standards but tame is relative, it's a car you can scare yourself in very easily because you're over 100 before you can tell you're moving. It's a great car don't get me wrong, it has a big engine and a 6MT what is not to like If I had Jay Leno's garage I'd have one, but to drive all the time it's a bit much. I'm happy if I can use 90% of a N52s power in any way someone might take pride in. This new thing, it's the manumatic tranny where they lose me, it just pains me to think all that power and I don't get to be the one to apply it. Like watching some1 else light fireworks.

I would go with the Taycan Turbo. Compared to that the BMW is blah.

E39 M5 was the fastest sedan in the world for a time. Was it the last sedan sold in the US with ONLY a 3-pedal option? I believe so.

Now the M5 is the new-money rich man's Accord and not much more. A daily for the people who feel (or want to give the impression that) they wouldn't notice the difference between 20k and 120k.
