Hello!

I have a 2008 328i that is currently at the body shop. I was driving like a fool and hopped up onto a small curb and hit a sign. Long story short, my steering wheel is not locking, and I'm 99% sure it did before the accident.

Am I going crazy? I know they took the steering lock off the later model e90s. Mine was manufactured 09/2007. Does anyone know when exactly they got rid of it?

If it's broken there's a steering wheel fault code which would give a red warning on the dash.

The early e9xs had column locks but around the early 2007 builds they removed the lock all together.

I'm sure my 2009 build E90 locks when you completely 'shutdown' the car. i.e. 2 presses of the 'start' button.

Seems to be an electrically-controlled lock.

I think it's region dependent, the nhtsa stopped requiring a lock in the mid-2000s.

I assumed my '07 does not lock, I have to try it (one would think if one has a car for 10 years one would know). I remember '06 owners having major issues when the lock failed.....and when someone posted it, the motor looked so cheesy....

Mine does not lock at all. I can have the car completely off and turn the wheel. 09 btw
