I had this issue on mine too...i bought a new stripping from bmw for like 30 bucks and my buddy who own's a body shop put it in for a 6 pack. My rear glass also had the top left and right rubber corners dry rot so he replaced that too...i guess its common for the 06's

I'm trying to replace the top molding on my 07 335i and it just does not want to go in. It looks like it wraps around the glass and it appears that the glass would need to be raised up, the piece slid over the end, then the whole assy lowered back down. Am I doing something wrong? I tried forcing it into the slot and it started to bend the metal frame inside the molding strip. Help!

^^ I know if you read my post I had to have my windsheild glass re-adjusted to get the top piece to fit in correctly.

^^ I know I was one who had to have dealership reinstall my front windshield at their cost of course. They said it was improperly installed at the factory.

OH and this was under CPO warranty but I had NO out of pocket expenses either, oh this issue also caused my Cowl to not seal correctly on the bottom of windshield.

So check your cowl out and see if it is tight and flush all the way accross the bottom.

I had to replace the reveal molding on my 2007 328i. It was cracking and falling apart, just like some of the pictures on the first page of this thread. My car came from California, maybe the hot sun and no humidity does it???

Replacement part was about $20 shipped. After tearing out the old one and using a shop vac to get the crumbled pieces out it was fairly easy to install. It did require quite a bit of pressure to seat it firmly all the way around. I ended up using the rubber grip on a pair of large pliers to help me press it in without damaging anything.

I am having trouble with one end that keeps popping up, I think I will have to use some epoxy on the passenger side to keep it sealed down. I guess the sealing strip just didn't quite get a good seal on that part.

I got a spray bottle and mixed in some car wash soap and water, sprayed the entire track down liberally, and the piece slid in with some resistance. Started on the drivers side and just pushed it down the track all the way to the passenger side. Then pulled the piece covering the adhesive and pressed it into place.

I tried the soapy spray also, still didnt want to go in. I guess I'll try one more time, then I may just trim part of the section that goes under the glass to make it easier to slide in.

I had something similar to this on my 335i, although not as bad. The dealer fixed it for me no problem tho under warranty...

Add me to the list. if it hasn't happened to you, it's prob cause your car is not in the sun UV that much. that, or it's already been replaced.

I WILL NOT be going with OEM BMW for this replacement part. There is too much JUNK coming out of BMW these days, so i am going aftermarket.

I have a 25 year old toyota with better window moulding that this crap!

I'm on my third one of that rubber molding on top of windshield..I also have a 2006 325i.

First molding replaced at 46,000 miles..replaced again at 93,000 miles. First was replaced under warranty second one cost in the $100 to $200 range if I recall.

Possible reasons for short lifespan:
Car is stored outside in the sun.
That rubber has absolutely no protection from UV because of where it lays.
There must be high wind pressure on it when moving at highways speeds.
I used to wash the car in a touchless car wash that uses high water pressure spray.
Windshield wiper fluid is squirted up onto this rubber possibly damaging it.
Rain and other flying particles routinely strike it.

Does anyone knows it is free to replace if under CPO warranty? My 07 335i have the similar issue and my car is still under CPO warranty. Should i go for replace it at dealer?

It is covered under original factory warranty, not CPO.

I did my repair for $26, and it told a whole 10 minutes to do the work. Yeah poor design and not sure why BMW still have not address this issue. Definitely material defect and it does not hold up under normal conditions.

Same problem here, identical to photo. However, my 2006 330i molding lasted 230K in South Carolina. Car is garaged, obviously not in sun much. Just ordered $25 replacement from ECS Tuning. Thanks to other posters for installation tips. I bought Schwaben trim tool kit to assist in removal, and I own a rubber mallet..
