Flywheel locking pin comes with camshaft lock kit, you need that and preferably a torque wrench that reads angle, if you watch a DIY there is plenty of information about procedure and tools required.

So when I replace the ledges is it gonna fix my 003100 code? Isn't that a limp mode code or no? And I still find it a little weird that ever since I replaced the solenoids limp mode only comes on like once a day instead of everytime I drive it.

The 3100 limp mode code is a result of the bad cam ledges reducing the vanos adjusting unit oil pressure, if you replace the ledges and the seals the limp mode code will be gone. Unless you have another problem, in which case I have no idea what it could be, but like I told you I'm pretty positive that's ur issue

Do you have any pictures of those shavings in the oil? The cam ledges usually look like small silver shavings, about 1-1.5mm in size.

Once you have the cam trays off it only adds an extra 3 hours and the tools can be had for about £80. |

I followed a few different youtube videos.
The budget bimmers one is great but it's worth watching both a couple of times. Also worth creating a physical bolt torque spec checlist for each bolt and getting a paint marker. I like having a paper copy because doing anything with a phone with oily gloves is impossible. |

For the ease and cost honestly i'd order all new lifters and check all of them when doing this job. Don't need 'em, return 'em.

After 2 hours of trying I have managed to find it but it was so hard to find because it was missing the plastic piece that im supposed to feel for. Now on to removing the ledges. But one more thing, do I NEED a torque wrench that reads angle because I don't have one.

Do not do the angle in your head, the last thing you want is a bolt coming loose because you didn't torque it correctly. Find a friend with one, or use a cheap angle tool, they are $15 at any auto store.

So I got it all done awhile ago and its been running perfectly fine no issue with that but now I'm in a situation where I may have a bad head gasket, just my luck isn't it. So today I woke up and started the car and boom low coolant light came on so I turned the car off and checked the coolant and it needed alot of coolant so I got some BMW coolant and filled it but realized that there was kinda a oily residue in there plus when I open the oil cap there is a bit of a yellow goop there so thats why i kinda think there is a bad head gasket.

Drain some oil and look. Does your exhaust smell like coolant ? I don't know how you would just have a bad head gasket, I don't think that is a very common problem.

Show photos of the goop.
In my experience it's normal to get some minor goop under the oil cap if the car has been sat for a while and only done short journeys. It's worse in very cold weather because the oil can take a long time to get up to temp. It normally clears up after a proper drive. |
