I see you're one of a few that have used the Carsystems emulator. I'm curious, did you have to do configuration to give it parameters for the car and the camera or did it work out of the box? I purchased the extended emulator with the lines, and the documentation mentions configuration, but it seems to be a little sparse with the specifics beyond that.

Did you use the same coding as in this thread or did anything differ?

The Carsystems emulator works with the same coding as the OP but also has some abilities to "self-code" so it might not need as much coding. It allows DVD in motion and I think offers a Nav unlock and some other stuff but I didn't mess with it, just put it in with the same coding as here. The dynamic lines need to be adjusted in length and curvature to match the car and this is easily done on-screen thru a hidden menu it adds to the CIC. I just turned the wheel sharply and pulled away from a curb, then stopped and adjusted the lines to reach the curb.

Thanks for the input - I did the coding in a similar way. I modified the VO, backed up the CIC coding. Tried default coding to see what would happen, but only some of the needed options changed, so I restored my coding and modified the other options as in the original posting.

It works great otherwise, but I'm left confused about configuring the lines. At first I thought the values would simply need to be set to the car's dimensions, but those numbers don't seem to jive with the default settings. I would suspect the numbers to be meaningful in some way.

Did you change any of the camera parameters in the setup menu?

The emulator doesn't know how wide your camera lens is or what kind of steering rack your car has so the numbers are meaningless. I had to drastically shorten the lines to make them match my steering path but they work very well and are actually quite helpful and accurate.

Can the coding be done first before the emulator and camera are installed?

Yes, you can code first but you won't see any changes in CIC behavior until you install the hardware.

E93 Backup Retrofit Not Working

Having issues with E93 backup camera retrofit. Video shows up on screen but there is a bar at the bottom - like it is out of sync. The Other issue is I cannot get the PDC picture to show up on the side of screen (has factory PDC) but it does beep. Any thoughts? I have tried all of the recommended coding in this post and am familiar with coding a variety of things on e90, e70, e46.

Cant figure out what I am missing. Any help would be appreciated.

Goodluck getting those RCA cables through the trunk and into the car. Why didn't you buy exactly what was posted in post #1 of this thread? It comes as a kit with everything you need.

Emulator

The Kit i ordered comes with the same RCA cable that the other kit does, this was easier being a plug and play.

Question Aftermarket Rear view camera

Hey,
I know there are directions to install the aftermarket rear view camera for the E92, but I know that I am not up to this task. Can anyone recommend a good shop that has reasonable pricing in Long Island??? Appreciate any help.

The autofocustech handle has a micro connector which is a lot easier to snake through the wiring loom and into the body of the car. Your camera has nothing like that, just straight RCA connectors (And why does it have two? You only need one). Goodluck man, that's going to be a bitch to install.

I'm hoping someone can help. I installed a trunk handle camera and this emulator:

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...=2187712529017

After coding I get a black camera screen and vertical PDC when shifting into reverse. To check video I dusted off an old laptop and connected it to the RCA jack and still got no video. The fact that the screen displays at all in reverse with the camera settings suggests that the coding was done right but I can't figure out what is going on here. Any suggestions? I'm going to buy a cheapie reverse cam in case the NTSC video out from my 2003 laptop isn't compatible for some reason. Thanks!

Everything wired up properly? Did you test the setup before actually installing it?

Works fine without PDC, I installed this system into my parentds 335d which doesn't have PDC.. Even the RVC values stayed the same.

Sorry if this was posted in the previous 47 pages, but does anyone know if you can do this coding with the Carly app?

This emulator ebay listing states "Rear View Camera Activator Only fit to CIC with PDC host" - you're saying that is incorrect, and that it works even if you do not have PDC? It is a less prominent warning than on other listings, but it is there. It's under "Item specifics" and the pic shows rear PDC.

lnxguy already saw my other post but for posterity's sake I got it working. I bought a 'PNP harness' from a shady ebay seller and not only was it pinned to 18 and 28 for an euro head unit (not disclosed in the listing, not easy to determine because of the felt wrap) the emulator was providing power when the car was off. I ran a fuse tap to switched power for now and waiting for a new emulator to arrive. After repinning the harness and running alternate power it works great. Hardest part was routing the wire in an e93. Also, I did a combox upgrade at the same time, which I won't do again- too many variables to eliminate when debugging.
