CIC won't recognize USB to update maps

Hello everyone. I have run into a problem updating the maps on my friends 02/09 build date e92 335. I have successfully updating my maps on my 09/09 e92 335 like a piece of cake. Pulled my 1b, generated code, and installed easily. I have successfully pulled my friends 1b and generated an Fsc code, used the same map file, the same usb, but the cic never prompts to update the maps! I then plugged that drive into my updated car and it recognizes the usb and prompts for an update! Please help me solve this predicament. Note: his car nav has the "i with checkmark" on the nav screen

Does he have the "i" and check mark in the left bottom hand corner?

EDIT: NVM not sure if you added the checkmark part or I missed it

I had an issue where when I first tried to update to 2018-1 maps, I had to hit the options button while on the nav screen and scroll to the bottom and there was a "update navigation" or something like that that I clicked and it started.

Try a different USB stick. Stupid, but that's probably all that's required.
