E92 Seats in E90??

Was wondering if e92 sport seats will fit an e90 non-sport. Ive searched and have gotten mixed answers. If its possible, what (if any) modification is necessary. Both are power, heated, and power lumber. Not sure if sport seats are power bolster or not

****correction. I'm not sure if the seats from the e92 are heated or not. Is there some sort of different module, connector, or part number for seats that are heated that I'd be able to visually identify?

Btw I'm out of the country. My car has heated non sport seats and it's an e90. The seats in question are out of an e92, in someone else's possession and he is unsure whether they are heated or not

Any input is appreciated.

You may have to bolt/weld a bar for your seat belts. The E92 belts are not built into the seat like the E90.

Garage List
Well, the part number shown (61 35 9 196 936) is for a seat module of either E90 or E92 variety that could be used with either:

For vehicles with
Seat adjuster, electric, with memory
and
Seat heating driver/passenger
----------
Driver's side
S459A=Yes

S494A=Yes

-Or-

For vehicles with
Seat adjuster, electric, with memory
and
Seat heating driver/passenger = No
----------
Driver's side
S459A=Yes

S494A=No

So that doesn't really tell you whether they are heated or not. Heating element in the seats is an integral part of the seat covers. So if there is no other way of telling & all else fails - you could partially remove a seat cover and check for the heating element.

Or if you have the ability of checking the VO for the car they came out of - there should be a code S494A present in the VO list.

As far as actually fiting E92 seats in E90, I don't see why not - as long as the floor is shaped the same & mounting points in same place. If they aren't - you could always swap your seat tracks over to the E92 seats.

Of course, the E92 seats will have the folding backrests - which are not needed in an E90 (which makes swapping E90 seats into an E92 fairly useless as you won't be able to easily get into back seat).

E90 cars that I have been in do not have the seatbelts attached to the seats - they just hang down pillar from mounting point beside the seat backrest.

There is a 100% probability that the airbag system will not work as intended.

Yes. Look at the underseat module, get the part # of it, and search for it on RealOEM. Or post a picture here. Or both, ideally. My friend went through exactly this process, so we're kind of experts on it now.

As for fitting E92 seats on an E90: main problem is the fact that they fold, and that the seatbelt attaches in a different way - there is a metal bar at the bottom (where your butt goes) which HAS a hole on the E90 seats, and which DOESN'T on the E92. Someone on this forum has once tried to drill through it, and it was a completely hopeless undertaking. Nobody has explored this further.

The seat module is identical to the one posted and has the following number.

Can't seem to find it on REAL OEM BMW 61.35 - 9 134 666 01

The e90 has the seatbelt clasp mounted onto the seat, on the e92 the clasp is mounted to the cabin interior. If you put e92 seats into an e90, you won't have any way of mounting the seatbelt clasp inside your car.

Source: Spent the better part of a year and $1k piecing together a sport seat swap for my E90. Been there, done that, E92 seats won't work.

Gotcha, i just checked it out and i saw that, man... My friend has some m3 speed cloth seats and they look awesome.. Do you think its possible to transfer that parts of the seat frame between the seats? Dis you try taking apart the bottom portion of the seat and seeing if you can either bolt the old bottom frame in or if it can be welded on?

Easiest solution is to transfer the cushions from the Coupe rails to the Sedan.

Not very difficult.

EASIEST solution is to simply buy the correct model seats for the correct model car

Honestly don't know why people continue to make an EZ swap into something almost impossible - if you can't find the correct seats right away - wait till you do...

Front seats fits perfectly, you just need to make sure that if you had not powered ones, you'll need to wire +, -, and K-CAN to your seats, that's only needed when you're retrofitting the powered ones ofc.
There is one catch with the front seats tho, there is no place where you can bolt your seatbelt, that's for you to figure out, i made holes in the same place where they used to be on my E90 ones.
However the back seats fits partially. You can see the image below which parts don't fit. (Door panels won't fit for sure).
