Doing this now. 2019 files are now being unzipped to flash drive. There will be nothing else on the drive when finished (i.e., I deleted the 1b-related files). Is this correct? I tried this twice earlier today, but nothing happened when I plugged in the drive in the glove box, so I reformatted drive and will try again. After a little further reading, I see you're supposed to plug in the flash, then turn on ignition. I did the opposite and am wondering if this may be why nothing happened. Any advice would be appreciated.

No luck with pulling 1B File
Hello,
I'am new to this forum and have the following Problem. I tried about 8 USB Sticks to pull the 1B File, but no luck at all. All Sticks are formated with Fat32. I have an BMW E91N 320 xd N47N. Manufacturing Date: 01.03.2010. I have made a photo of the Navigation Infoscreen. Attempted everything, but nothing worked for me, can't pull the 1B File. Used the port in the glove box. Waited from 30 sec. to 5 min. to pull it, but Nothing happens. File for pulling was in the root Directory of the stick! Hope somebody out there can help me. Many thanks in advance! My car was made in Dec of 2009. I don't want to discourage you, but I was able to pull the file, but the file did not have the car's VIN in it, and was worthless. Even if you manage to pull the file, it still might not work. I know there is a way to create the Key using your VIN number and information about the update you wish to install.

1b.hex file not copying
I have a BMW 325i (2009 model) and I am not able to pull 1b.hex file using the USB port in Glove box.
Steps followed: First step: Pull 1b file from your car via usb stick. 1. Unpacked the ZIP file (1b.zip) to the root of an empty USB stick (pre-formatted in FAT32) 2. Powered on your car (tried both with ignition on and also starting my car) and waited until the navigation system has started completely 3. Inserted the USB stick in the USB port in the glove box 4. Waited for around 30 seconds 5. Removed the USB stick from the port in the glove box and put it in my (Windows-10) computer-1b.hex file was not present 6. Tried step 1 to 5 using another USB stick but no success. I also read that 2009 and below models are not CIC but CCC which is altogether different and can be updated only using DVD. There were few others recommending to use ethernet cable to pull the b.hex file. Can someone please guide how can I update my navigation maps?? |

Having read through pages and pages of info I was fairly confident of being able to carry out the map upgrade, however I seem to have fallen at the final hurdle.
My car is a 2009 that has CIC but the navigation version is the "non-tick/i" one that means I can't update via USB, and have to use DVDs instead. So far I have: - Got hold of Premium Europe West Maps 2019-1 (3xUSB), converted to iso's and burnt to dual layer DVDs. - Extracted my 1B file via USB in the glovebox. - Used said 1B file with the Jagaer FSC Generation programme to generate codes (tried both lifetime and standard, also tried with VIN rather than 1B). - Inserted disc in car, waited for prompt to enter code, which is then rejected every time. Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong? My thoughts so far are: - Does the USB version not like being burnt to DVD? - Could my 1B file be invalid? Is there a way to check? - My previous map version was Premium Europe 2013, uploaded via DVD. Does the fact that the new one is "Europe West" have any relevance? Any help gratefully received! |

First off, thanks to portalseo for his work. I am struggling to extract my 1b file from my 2012 E91. I have formatted 3 different USB to FAT32, downloaded and extracted the 1b.zip and installed to each USB.
I followed the instructions - turn on ignition, wait for sat nav to load, plug in USB, wait 30 secs, remove USB - with all 3 USBs on various occasions, both with engine running and just ignition on to no avail. When I plug the USB in, does the Sat Nav screen do anything to let you know if the 1b file is running - rotating circle symbol? I have tried via both Mac and PC and my wife is getting annoyed that I have spent all morning doing this, rather than help her take down the Christmas decorations/ clean the house! Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. |

Certainly on mine there was nothing on the Sat Nav to indicate anything was happening in the background.
Do you have the files in the root directory of the USB stick rather than in a folder? Quote:

OK, next little discovery.
I think there is an issue with my 1B extraction process. Having looked at a couple of examples online, where people seem to have a VIN number displayed when opening the file in a hex editor, I just have "1234567". I'm off to try different USB sticks now, unless anyone has any bright ideas! |

Yep, file in root directory of USB - only content of the USB. Left in for up to 5 mins and still nothing. Can't think what I am doing wrong.

Solved:
I was copying the whole 1b file to the USB once unzipped. I have just tried it with the copie_src.sh and instructions files in the root folder of my USB and got my 1b.hex file. I then ran it through the FSC generator and it was accepted by the car! 5% of the way through the 2019-1 update. Thank you Wake22 for your help. Hope you get yours sorted soon. |

Yes, that's the case. I had my laptop with me in the car, just pulled usb, quickly removed the previous USB contents and dumped the next folder into the root of usb, plug back in and the NAV auto detects and continue.

Still seems like I'm getting a duff 1b file, attached. It seems very similar (possibly exactly the same!) as one I've seen elsewhere on here, from someone having an issue along the same lines.
Where I should have something that resembles a VIN, I just have "1234567" instead. I'm guessing a cable-based solution may be the way forward, unless anyone has any thoughts about what I'm doing wrong? |
