Differences N55 engines between 2010 and 2015
Good morning all,
My N55 has a spun bearing without a single warning On this forum I read that the N55 engines of 2010 and 2011 have bigger chance of engine failure (crankshaft/connecting rod failure) and this should be fixed in the newer engines. So now I found a used engine from 2015 from a scrap yard. I also read on this forum that this is done more often, so this should not be a big problem. However, the scrap yard compared the numbers and they say this engine will not fit because the numbers don't match. I also looked to Realoem (see the attachment) and I saw that the engine part number changed in 04-2012. - The head still has the same part number - the crankshaft / connecting rod / pistons still have the same partnumbers. - the oil pump has a new part number - the casting is not for sale separately (only including internal parts) so I cannot compare the casting. I know that this engine is converted from EUR5 to EUR6 somewhere in time, where the injectors were updated (I will replace them with the old injectors). Does anybody know what was changed on 04-2012 and whether this will affect the application of the 2015 engine in the 2010 car (E70 LCI)? Thanks in advance and best regards, Hendrik Last edited by heze; 06-26-2020 at 03:09 AM.. |

Thanks for your message.
Do you know what the exact update inside de engine casting were? Is it true that the newer engine can replace the old engine? Best regards Hendrik |

As for the new N55 also look into the turbo/wastgate. IT would not probably match with old DME. I would reuse the HPFP and alot of accessories. |

two things off the top of my head changed, the ECU thats why until just recently we had to unlock our dme with a bench flash to use MHD. also they changed the HPFP and the new HPFP does NOT flow as well as the early n55 styles. but the majority of the parts are the same. iam pretty sure if you got a n55 out of a e series you should be able to make it work without to much of a hassle. I am not sure about the f series though, but if you got the knowledge and or the cash i dont see why it couldnt be done as well.
good luck and keep us updated! |

all accessory items... the engine itself is fine to interchange. |
