Since I drive a lot, it seems I bring on new issues most of the time.

DS and Manual mode don't work anymore.
When shifting to DS the light and shifting points remain in D mode.

When shifting up or down in M (manual) mode it stays in manual for a few seconds and then it automatically defaults to D mode, although the shifter has not been touched and is still in the same position (left).

Sometimes when I am in M mode and take to the right side or D mode, the indicator stay in M. I have to put it in N and then in D again to go back to D mode.


Question time:

bad fuses?
bad solenoids?
busted valve body?
Anyone here experienced such thing?

I haven't experienced any such thing but it sounds more like an electrical issue than a mechanical one. Especially if you don't have any transmission warning lights or error codes.

I would start by inspecting the wiring around the shifter/gear selector as there are a lot of pinch points and I could easily envision something getting cut/frayed/disconnected.

I could be wrong here, but I think you would still have a functional vehicle. P-R-N-D engagement is achieved mechanically through a linkage of levers and a cable. All of the wiring in the shifter assembly merely communicates to the instrument cluster the selected drive mode. In the case of DS or M mode being selected, further communication is enabled to allow the driver to send an electronic signal (by pulling on a paddle or moving the selector handle) to the transmission control unit (or whatever it's called) which effects the engagement of the forward drive gears.

Hello Guys i have a similar problem on my 328i 2007. i replaced my GM tranmission (automatic) with the same GM 6l45 transmission, but that transmission was taken from a 328i 2009 year model car. everything works great except the ds mode. it engages in DS mode and works fine for 40-50 seconds when i start the car and then it reverts itself in D mode, it does the same on each start. i changed my normal steering wheel with a paddle shifter one, because the 2009 328i had a paddle shifter, it did not fix. then i checked the wires in the shift assembly and all the wires seems okay, then i tried a new shift assembly from the 2009 328i model, still did not fix. I would really appreciate if anyone could help. i've been trying to fix this for 3 weeks already.

From what I heard, The D's don't like to be in DS mode and when it senses that the car is in one gear too long it reverts to D mode to prevent damage.
