Heading to Detroit, recommend things to do

Heading down to Woodward Dream Cruise 2018 in Detroit this August.

Majority of the daytime will be spent at the Woodward Dream Cruise, so I was wondering if someone with experience could recommend some night life spots (bars/clubs) that are good.

Thanks

My wife is from there. PM me, will give you some great places to check out.

PS - It's not as bad as it seems. Yes there are tough places, but downtown has some pretty nice craft cocktail bars, good restaurants as well.

You should go to Windsor (Canada). Not a huge fan of Detroit.

We usually go for Detroit auto show, but party/stay in Windsor. Canadian people are very friendly.

Some great restaurants in detroit now. Check out detroit.eater.com.

Prime and Proper is a fancy steakhouse and VERY good.
Townhouse is also a great place for cocktails/brunch/dinner

The Dream Cruise doesn't go past 8 mile, meaning it does not go into Detroit itself. 9 mile @ Ferndale is "Mustang alley" where Ford puts on a gigantic display. The heart of the show is between 13 - 15 mile rd (Beaumont Hospital - downtown Birmingham).

Speaking of which, downtown Birmingham is THE spot for high end dining in metro Detroit. It's a walkable little area with lots of boutique restaurants and stores, parks, etc. Lots of nice cars there all the time. It's where metro Detroit's wealthy hang out.

Depending on the crowd you are looking for, downtown Royal Oak (11 mile and Woodward) is where most of the night life scene is at. Overwhelmingly recent college grads. If you want to hang out with the hipsters then go to Ferndale.

Greektown is the other major "night life" area and it's just to the side of downtown Detroit. It's not as good in my opinion.

Downtown Detroit itself has some nice roof top places. If you are looking for a rooftop club specifically I can tell you the name. There are nice restaurants and other things that have opened up but I can't speak more to them as I have not checked them out.

If you're into shopping, the Somerset Collection on Big Beaver Rd. is one of the nicest malls around.

Rooftop would be ideal.

3Fifty Terrace. It's near Comerica Park. It turns into a full blown club, meaning you get the usual club crowd.

LevelTwo and Exodus are also rooftop places. They are a couple blocks away in Greektown. Haven't been to either so I don't know if they are more docile/classier or also straight up clubs.

You'd have to split time between Detroit and Dallas.

Cool craft brew spot downtown is Jolly Pumpkin.

Joe Muer Seafood on the Detroit River is absolutely phenomenal, although expensive.

Also - Jack White's place is right near Jolly Pumpkin and worth a walk through. And so is Shinola.

Joe Muer is in the bottom of the RenCen / GM World Headquarters. You can walk through there and see all the cars on display. Pretty cool. Also in the same complex is the MGM Grand Detroit - the hotel where Chris Cornell killed himself. On the top floor is a place called The Coach Insignia - also super expensive restaurant with a great view.
