Happy new year guys, all the best for 2011! I was in NYC on the 2nd, would have liked to come catch up with everyone. Next time for sure.

I'm ordering some stuff from eShine, does anyone need anything? Free shipping for orders over $150. Let me know! (I'm grabbing some Optimum No Rinse for winter washes, if anyone else wants we can buy the bigger cheaper bottle and split it afterwards.)

Oh, I was wondering how long you would resist getting the flux capacitor
Congrats on your new power mod

I got it, it's well worth the $7.99 but the offering isn't that great..

if you're all after the latest movies you'd be disappointed, netflix here isn't like netflix in US because of licensing issues, but they're working on it and it's improving

they have a free 1 month right now, you do need a credit card but you can judge it and see if you want to keep it or not..

IMHO, it's worth $8 a month for the large variety you get

Great timing on this subject, I was thinking that $8 is a good deal. But aren't there other costs, such as your internet provider's download limit to think about? And how long does it take to download a movie?

You have to consider that as well but I have a grandfathered 7 year old (!!!) sympatico plan with unlimited download/etc

and it doesn't download it, it streams it, so you don't have to wait, it starts playing right away!

I think if you need streaming, are happy with quality, and don't want to deal with "finding" stuff (i.e. click and play) then it's an excellent deal.

I prefer 1080p videos, so I'm kinda out of luck with Netflix.......

There's no way the bitrate is similar to x264 @ 10-15GB per movie :P

Does streaming means it doesn't count for your internet download limit? (I am n00b speaking here! )

Sadly, it does count. But it should be reasonably bearable - I do not know what are the bandwidth requirements, but in the absolute WORST case of requiring a full cable connection, i.e. 800 kb/sec x 7200 sec for a 2hr movie = 5.76GB. I kind of doubt it's THAT intensive, though - I bet it's, at most, half that.

[edit] here we go: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=244167

So around 6 mbits (so as I described) for hi-def, and less for standard definition video. So with a 20GB limit, you can watch 4 HD movies per month. Or so.

streaming definitely counts towards your download limit.

I've gone all out. Subscribed via my PS3. Not too bad. A good enough selection to make it worth while. Not any worse then the TMN crap. So I'll ditch that.

Got Grand Tourismo 5. Will pickup a real steering wheel / pedal combo and will finally descend into the gaming escape. Working my way to an M3. Woo hoo.

Your internet will need to be up'ed for capacity, but I already have a large pipe with Videotron for work. Since it is streamed there is no waiting. The reverse/forward/pause works well too.

Although I'm connected 1080p to the PS3, I'm sure it's 720i at best. Looks fine either way. I'm sure the Videotron internet police will soon turn down the spigget from Netflix to prevent erosion of their pipe and to keep their video on demand and similar services in a stronger position.
