179 Wheels....worth it?
Hey everyone! I haven't posted in the XI forum before, but have done quite a bit of reading.
I have a pretty good understanding of the key point to stay within 1% rolling diameter when it comes to upgrading to staggered wheels, but I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were. I'm currently driving an '11 328 Xdrive, and was offered a good deal on OEM 179 wheels...$500 with a new set of Kumo tires on them (atleast I think this is a good deal). The tires are 225/35/19 and 265/30/19, giving them a .75 difference. I figured for the price I'm paying, I could always swap out 2 of the tires down the road, if needed, and it would still be a steal. Does everyone think that this is a good deal, and will these tires work ok for now? What kind of ride change will I feel when I swap out my stock 17s"? And since I'm below 275/30s in the back, should I expect any rubbing? Thanks in advance for everyone's opinion. You all are who I want to listen to, since you have already gone through this. |

Have you tried reps (Replicas)? I've
Been loathe to expense a wad of cash just for street wheels. I've bought and used replicas for years and have had no issues with fitment or quality. Look up '5x120 BMW' on eBay and you should see plenty of wheel sets for $4-500. There are some nice looking options online. |

I don't know about the xi considerations, but are you going from 17 to 19? if so, might be a change in ride characteristics especially if your roads are bad.
If the wheels / tires are local, maybe ask for a test run on your car? (bring a jack and wrench with 17mm) You could get a good feel for ride changes and if there are tire noises / imbalances. If they're not local, get comfortable with seller and either way, get a good inspection for cracks, bends, cosmetic defects. Check tire tread carefully for un-even wear. |

$500 is an extremely good price for the wheels alone! Wish I could have gotten to them ahead of you.
Inspect carefully for hairline cracks around the rim which seem to be common to these wheels. Expect a rough ride compared to your originals and avoid potholes. |
