Let us know how it goes and installation pricing. Did you consider installing it yourself and just having the dealer do the activation/software update?

Doing some research on upgrading my stereo now. Probably start with the subs and maybe add an amp. We shall see.

$787 was just parts. I think you are missing a few items in your addition there. And no, no USB retrofit right now (its vaporware if you ask me).
As an update. The car spent all day at the shop and there were some programming issues. Seems 11 other modules have to be programmed before they can get the bluetooth to work. Those take a while, so, I'll get my car tommorrow sometime. They did say installing the hardware was easy. The installer knew all about the ipod retrofit, but was intrigued by the bluetooth. He had never seen it or done it. Good thing I brought the instructions :P As far as labor goes, it should be interesting when I pay tommorrow. I did tell them the BMW recommended times and they seemed ok with that. Guess we'll see.

Almost noon update. All the bluetooth and ipod is in and working. But while doing the updates, the sunroof threw a code and they are trying to figure out what the deal is with that. Haven't picked it up yet.
Next update. All kinds of programming issues still. Probably not getting it back today either They told me the car still had "transport" codes in it and those should have been removed by the dealership on delivery.

Oh man. It seems the FZD and the TCU i purchased are not the right type for my car. Since my car is 01/07 production and these are for 03/07-03/08 production. Gotta talk to Tischer bout all these parts in the morning. Car still at shop.

wowzers... any update?
EDIT: doh it just turned midnight... thought Yesterday meant Wednesday. anywhoooo... subscribed. I spoke to 4 different dealerships about the bluetooth retrofit and each one said something different and quoted me 4 different prices, lowest being $399+labor and the other being $1900 including labor so I'm interested to see how this turns out. |

Oh man. Evan has double checked, and the parts he sent are the correct parts for my car. Not sure what the deal is w/ the coding nightmare. Evan suggested I take the car to a bmw center and have them complete the coding.
I can feel my wallet getting lighter.

at the service center now. Gotta love the iPhone. iPod is in and works perfectly. Bluetooth parts are in, and the car likes them, but they can't seem to get the car to understand it has the parts.

Well, at 5pm they finally figured it out! Bluetooth and Ipod working now. The best part? After 3 days in the shop, they only charged me 4 hours of labor ($379) for the whole thing. Their reason? The problem w/ the install was not the parts, it was their knowledge of the BMW software and how to do the BT retrofit. The parts (as selected by Tischer) were 100% right.
The reason they had problems w/ the whole programming thing was because they were using an old programan version and it didnt like my new part numbers. They were also referring to older offline documents in reference to part numbers. In the end, they basically told my car that the FZD (roof switch) was the older part number and it worked. Im gonna update my OP w/ some information as well. So go back to that and read for some more information.

Sounds really interesting and like a fun project, but $1200 is still alot just to get bluetooth (I remember 10 years ago people used to pay $1200 for add-on CD players and now CD players are standard or super cheap on most cars). I think the last person I read about here paid even more like around $1500 for parts plus labor for the TCU retrofit. Since I don't know if my current or any future cell phones I may get will be compatible (not listed in approved phones list), it would be an expensive gamble especially since I already have access to bluetooth in my car via other methods that is compatible with my phone. I'll also wait and see if the EAS kit turns out to be much cheaper for similar functionality. |

Nice pics of the final set up for the iphone.
Could you post more pics of that base? and also details. that looks like the pro-clip. does the cable attach to the base or to the iphone directly?
