New member with some ordering questions

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and I recently ordered a 2011 328i coupe with the following specs:

Jet Black exterior
Oyster/Black interior w/ aluminum trim
6 speed manual transmission
Premium package
Value package
Sport package

Needless to say I'm extremely excited to actually get behind the wheel of my new ride. However I do have a question.

I ordered the car on August 14th which was a Saturday. Dealer put the order in on the 16th (Monday). I've been calling the 1800 number to check the status of my order but it still says unconfirmed production date. Is this a normal amount of time between ordering and production? I've been hearing things on the board about the German factory being shut down for the month of August but the reps on the 1800 line seem to be clueless about it. I figured I would at least have a confirmed date by now. Any ideas?

That seems like a pretty long time. If I were you, I'd check with my CA. Their information is much more up to date than the 800 number or the BMW website. By now, your CA should have called you with your VIN at least.
Good luck.

And your new car sounds beautiful!

I went through a pretty long delay as well:

Signed ordering papers ~7/20
Got production Slot ~8/4
Confirmed production week ??? - I never really got a confirmed week, all I was ever told was "September production, October delivery"
It flipped to status 112 at some point in August, but frankly I stopped paying attention to make the wait less awful
Changed to status 150 on 9/1/10 pretty much out of the blue (I was calling to get an option added on and they told me it was already in production, haha)

Like the previous poster said, check with your CA - they have the most up to date information of anyone. The 800# representatives are pretty worthless honestly.

Based on my estimation, you're probably looking at late September production (week 37-39).

Just got off the phone with my CA. Told me my car will be ready for pickup on 10/27/10. Kind of a long way off but at least now I have a date.

However, I'm curious as to how he knows the exact date I can pickup my car when it hasn't even gone into production...

They'll give a conservative estimate so they're confident they can hit the date. It's entirely possible it could show up a week earlier than that. Beating a deadline is good, missing one is bad.

serg! Finally! I think our cars might be on waiting together, and maybe on the same ship.

I ordered mine on 07/21. Dealer first said it might be complete end of July as the slot is still available. That did not happen and it got Week 35 production week allotment.

My car finished production 09/01 and is now being sent to the Port of Exit/ Bimmer Heaven
I am not expecting delivery before Mid October though. Long long wait. Might be time to start tracking the ship soon.

PS: I am quite happy with the 1800# AUTOMATED service, it has been accurate and has given updates very quickly with little to minimal delays.

Oh yea my CA gave me the production slot # when he got it, unfortunately I never really got a solid production week. I think part of that is because the factory was closed in August and they can't "confirm" a slot until they get back. Who knows? All I know is I'm in production now.

As far as which ship you'll get on, you might actually get on the Elektra (departs 9/9). I'm hoping my production is complete in time for me to get on it (started production 9/1). If not I'll hopefully end up on the Manon (departs 9/16).

How long did it take for you to go from status 150 to 151?

I am not sure if I know the answer to the status change. I could not track my vehicle status closely with my CA, after I ordered as I got more into figuring out the $1k UD Credit. I have no documents from my dealership at all, which mention anything related to order tracking. They say we can send you something once the car is picked up at Bremerhaven.

From what I remember, within a week of ordering, when I pestered my CA about the status, he told me that Week 35 has been alloted for production and the car will start somewhere end of August to First week of September.

Then I got the VIN about middle of August, when I read somewhere on the forum that all allotments for pending orders were made before factory was closed. So my guess is - it went to 151 almost instantly, as when I tracked using BMWUSA Track my BMW couple of days after ordering, it started from 'Scheduled for production' instead of 'On Order', perhaps that means nothing.

Great to know that your car is also almost ready for completion. What combo did you get?
Thanks for the info about the ship. Where are you looking for the schedule of the ships?

PS: Sorry for thread-jacking OP, what is the status on your order? Any more info you got from your dealership?

Great Combo. Bamboo anthracite is awesome!

I was looking here before, and saw this. Kinda confusing, dont see Elektra anywhere. What might be missing?

Origin Port: BREMERHAVEN
Departure: 11/09/2010
Destination port:PORT HUENEME, CA
Arrival :06/10/2010
Vessel : DON CARLOS
Voyage : CD036-DOC
Transit (Days): 25

EDIT: My bad, when I said we could be on same ship, I assumed it will stop on east coast, does not look like that is the norm.

Not a problem man. Useful info is being disseminated. I really have no clue about my order status. My CA just told me when to expect delivery and that was about it. Other than that I still have an "unconfirmed production date." I feel like the only thing I can really do now is reread the owner's manual and stalk the forums haha.

In a couple of days I guess. Keep calling the 1800# every other day and you will know.

Looks like your CA is not being very informative. Did you try visiting them and maybe getting some info that way? Phones and emails don't seem to work out that well. He should have an idea about production week allotment.

Good luck!

What do you make of this?

Assigned to: E-13-6xxxx

I'm pretty sure this is just the region code, E for east - etc.

Yes, I am wrong. It speaks nothing of what I think it does. It all made perfect match in my case and I jumped to conclusion. I am trying to find a way to strike-through that piece of info I posted for avoiding confusion in the future, as it shows up in search results.

Is it your CA that gave you the paint shop information?

My car looks like it's "on order" on the website and when I called the #800 I got the "in production with scheduled completion of 9/15". There is no mention of paint shop or anything else.

Looks like my car is going to be on MEDEA, departing 9/28/10 and arriving to Galveston 10/18/10. I wonder how long from the time it arrives in Galveston until I can get it in my hands at the dealer in DFW.
