OEM M3 Exhaust mod thread....

I just wanted to start a thread to track this mod and others that myself and some of the other M3 guys have talked about doing.

Here is what AR is going to do on Friday. Basically, they are going to open up my OEM exhaust, cutout the perforated pipes and replace them with straight pipes, and then reseal. From all the reviews and vids that I have heard, it sound pretty sweet!

What do you think?

It is actually a very common thing for people to do that want to retain the factory look while adding a bit of raw grunt. Plenty of E36 guys I know have done it (Most the time, not welding in pipes, just leaving the canister open, but that is likely to cause lots of turbulence and disturb the flow). It's also a popular mod for the corvettes as well.

I am excited to see what kind of exhaust note comes from your car when it's all done on Friday Sid!

Primary cats like the turner test pipes. It's a significant power bump of course less so for us.

You first!

So after doing some more research I think I am just going to seal up the large perforated pipes on each side and leave the small ones alone. They dont seem to make much of a dif anyways plus it will help keep the cost down.

Good call. Plus it may be TOO loud with all of the pipes sealed up. I can't wait to hear it!

I think you should def do something though. That exhaust is just asking to be opened up a bit.
