The Zepp is amazing ^^. It can also be used as a Sound Dock. The only thing is the price.

The higher end Sony Dock sounded pretty darn good also. It was around ~300.

+1 Dr. Dre products sound bad IMO.. trying to cover up with relatively higher bass, marketed towards young people for the image etc..

Go for Bose. Higher investment is well worth it considering that sound system is one of those things that last decades without a real breakthrough in technology. I mean TVs from 10-20 yrs ago are crap, but 10-20 yr old high quality speakers still sound better than most a few hundred dollar systems nowadays..

For everyone saying "dre's suck" "bose is better" is just as ignorant as people buying the Dre's.

Bose makes good stuff, so does Monster.

But there is better audio companies out there then both Bose and Monster.

Some interesting Pseudo retro choices made by Crosley - Not sure about sound quality though, They don't look high end price wise :

Crosley - iDuet

Crosley - Rachero

Crosley - iDeco

I personally think the Beatbox by Monster sounds like crap.

I'd personally do the Sony RDPX500IP (sounds really good, also has a built in subwoofer)

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+S...ock&cp=1&lp=12

or even the bose sound dock series 2

theres no way the sony sounds better then the beatbox. I tried every possible dock they had there with my ipod and the beatbox is superior to the sony one. I'm looking for something thats loud enough to hear over my friends talking when i have parties. The bose however is really good but i would want the bigger one but not wiling to spend 600 bucks. so i picked up the beatbox for 245 and im happy with my purchase.

Here is my collection of Kanto SYD 5's http://s1054.photobucket.com/albums/...er_media_share they weigh about 25lbs each! They also come with a free Bluetooth adaptor you can use to steam to them wireless. They also sound much better than the B/W Zepplin

Oh ok, in that case it isn't so bad it does have more bass than bose, but its ugly.

I may go with a cheap jbl onstage for $80, or an ihome. For my gf ofcourse. i'm happy with the bose sounddock II

I tend to the agree the bose stuff is generally overpriced. however, a friend of mine bought the bose portable ipod dock, and it seems pretty nice (better be for $350). We took it on a cruise and brought it everywhere with us. Sitting around by the pool it was plenty loud (and sounded decent enough), even in that wide open area. And the battery had pretty good battery life.

anyway, I would definitely want a portable dock. You can also check out the logitech in this article, if you care about portability.. http://gizmodo.com/5859557/the-best-ipod-dock

An Update : Just FYI - I received this system about two days ago and have been listening to it at work since then, playing various kind of music and at different volume levels and equalization set up. I am using my old Bose 201 (Series IV) bookshelf speakers instead of the ones that came with the system and also using Yamaha YSTSW216BL subwoofer as mentioned. Overall size is very small and great for not taking too much room on a bookshelf. Remote works great and is easy to operate and get used to. I have not tried the radio and probably never will since I do not listen to commercial radio stations or even NPR anymore.

I think overall, it sounds awesome. I have to be careful with the bass level on the Subwoofer because next door neighbor complained about hearing nothing but BOOM BOOM coming through my office walls ....No complaint for the little I paid for it ($285 Total and shipping/ No tax = $213 for the stereo and $72 for the subwoofer - Both were clearance items at Vanns.com). It sounds much larger than I had expected. So, I am quite happy
