this money eating monster is taking all my money,i have an e90 2005 320d bought it 5 years ago,its been the worst car i ever owned.about 9 months ago my car all suddenly started leaking a shitload of oil,took it to a servis told me it was the piston rings,ok so i changed them...so now it did it again...my engine started leaking like a slut,mostly seems on top of the engine idk where it comes from,i just noticed alot of white smoke coming out from the exhaust,and stoped then,after a bit i kept it running but at neutral to see where the leaking comes and all of sudden the goblin starts to rev alot without stopping...so my question is does anyone know what the fuck is wrong with her ....
this time the mechanic said its probably from the clogged air filter idk im sad

Look at all the gaskets. I do not know diesel BMW engines very well but I'm pretty sure you're looking at a new valve cover gasket or valve cover.

There seems to be two big problems here, your mechanic has absolutely no idea what they're doing/talking about, and you're listening to them.

You should also look up "runaway diesel" because it sounds like you almost had one.

You need to tell us, did you really change the engine's piston rings? Like your mechanic took apart your engine for a oil leak? If yes you 100% need a new mechanic. That is insane.

my car model is bmw e90 320d 2005 i think it has a M47 engine as i read on the web,and yes the mechanic i took the car is said that he is a "great" mechanic haha,my car symptoms were oil consumption and oil leak it seemed like it comes from the top of the engine and it flooded the engine completely,then it started to take out alot of white smoke from the exhaust,one mechanic told me to change the engine completely because it wont work anymore,and the one i took my car to the other one who said that it seems a piston rings problem,and he took off the engine and took the engine apart,and charged me at the end about 500 EUR....now fast forward 4 month later my car still has the same exact problem i kept calling the mechanic telling him that im smelling burned oil coming from the air conditioneer but he kept saying that is nothing to worry about,now after my car did all this again he said that is probably from the dirty air filter...as i read many people here saying that it might be a engine gasket cover problem,i would open the engine by myself because i dont plan spending anymore money on her,would you recommend me any guide as a total noob i am with cars haha..

It’s gonna take more than new cock rings for your pistons to stop this leaky slut.

As everyone else has said, you need a new mechanic. This guy is straight-up stupid.

When it comes to pinpointing the source of a leak, it’s a good idea to start by cleaning the vicinity of where the leak appears to be coming from. In this case, I’d recommend you clean your engine. (Don’t just pressure wash it; look up how to do this properly.)

I haven’t read all the replies but I think suggestions have been made regarding possible sources of this leak. I would suggest you check those out. If you aren’t comfortable doing this yourself, your only option is a competent mechanic.

You are quite the artist with language, like Jackson Pollack not DiVinci. But, I digress from the issue as I think that your VCG is what you need to concentrate on and perhaps that oil cap. I suspect that your plug wells are saturated with oil and worth inspecting. While you're at it, you may want to go slap the mechanic that has been recommending/guessing what your car needs. Do try to refrain from insulting females because one day, you might want to have an adult relationship with one and they generally don't care to be spoken to in such a manner.

Damn... yeah the mechanic is very incompetent or is purposely scamming you. You don't just change piston rings without even doing a compression test confirming. I'm no mechanic just a decent DIYer might be wrong but pretty sure that's accurate.

And the fact he tells you to not worry about a burning smell from your AC I'm baffled. Usually this means you have a oil leak that burns on the hot exhaust and it's how you smell it. In most cases it is just the valve cover gasket. But yeah the pics are hard to find, you would have to clean all of that first then look back again.

Now the oil consumption and exhaust smoke that could be another issue. How bad is your oil consumption? How many kilometres do you do before having to add a litre?

The plastic valve cover might have cracked. A new gasket will not solve it, a new cover will be needed. Many of those problems with N51, N52, N54 and N55 in the U.S.
