Hello,
I am considering to buy one ozone generator like below:
have you ever used it? do they work? someone was saying these ozone generators are a scam. If they are scam then why Amazon has 3500 reviews?

Please advise so i can place an order, my car is all screwed up in regards to interior smell and dirt by previous owner.

The link is broken but I have one of these and they work. I use them on my hunting clothes and in my car once in a while. They work.

they are not a scam.

maybe some sellers are selling machines that don't actually generate ozone and they are scammers, but legit ozone machines work.

if you want to get rid of the smoke.
wipe all the hard surfaces down with vineger.
put your ozone machine in there and turn the HVAC to high fan speed and recirc.
turn it on and leave it for thirty minutes.

It may take more than one go if it's super nasty.
Don't leave it in there for hours, or it will damage rubber things.

no idea. Dad bought one to clean up a nasty volkswagen. It came from amazon. I know that much.
it was blue.

the timer on that unit would be nice.

You'll find yourself using it allllll over the place. Under your sinks, in your garage, outdoor sheds. Just make sure you don't have pets or plants in the area, as it will injure both. Let the car air out for 5 minutes before getting back in. I usually turn mine on at end of the day after I've had fast food in the car. By morning time the car smells new.

I think it depends on how bad the smell is to be honest. They work, but if it’s reallly bad, then adjust your expectations accordingly.

Those work but you have to vacuum the carpets and clean the interior first really well before that to make it work the best

I would also change the cabin air filter. I’ve used a steamer on the vents and that helps

previous owner smoked the hell inside it, while vaccuming and cleaning by hand, I found weed balls in it, bunch of cigarettes and water bottles lying around, between the seats and below the seats.


I can not afford to change leather seats. I have already changed cabin air filter and it did not make much difference, i made a mistake by changing it before cleaning the car thoroughly.


SOmeone told me clean it with moist vinegar cloth and then use ozone generators.

I have vaccumed the whole car, found cigarettes, weed balls etc, planning to clean interior this weekend with proper supplies brush etc.

I have changed air filter but i made a mistake, i changed it without cleaning anything else, and still smell is there.

WHich steamer did you use? I have a cheap steamer which I can try using, but i found that steamers drips a lot of water soon as you start steaming surface, is that ok?

Many BMW's used to come with with "ionizers" or "ozone generators" as factory equipment. Same with a few other car manufactures. Some of these devices were discontinued(those that emitted actual levels of ozone), potentially due to California Air Resource Board restrictions. Tesla also discontinued use of these devices - literally in an OTA updated turned them. Not sure how many of them were due to actual ozone detection, but I can tell you that California has a zero tolerance for products that release ozone. In this regard, I would not trust a majority of the ionizers out on the market for continued use in your car while you're in it.


If we're talking about the legit lab tested Ionization/Plasma technology, Yes. Very effective when it comes to addressing the complete void that exists in air purification in vehicles - specifically the dirrrrt rottten nasty stuff we cant see, particulate matter less than 3 microns, or PM2.5, and Ultra Fine PM as small as less than .01 microns. For reference, Covid19 is .125 microns, and these devices are pretty indiscriminate about the contaminants they kill; the efficacy is pretty mind blowing, as is the limited utilization of these devices in all cars. Samsung, SHARP, and Panasonic are the best known OE suppliers of Ionization technology on new cars. None of their devices release ozone as a biproduct of sterilizing the air. Just about every car manufacturer, since about -- I dunnno, March 2020 -- has been working on bringing air sterilization tech to cars. UV-C radiation, Hepa Filtration, Plasma ionization. Health and Wellbeing is now become an integral part of the Safety and Security features in future cars, so by 2025 I wouldn't be the least surprised to see any number of variant "germ-free filtration" devices as standard equipment on all new cars.


Unfortunately, none of them offer a "universal" or aftermarket solution. Except for Samsung SPi - their device installs behind the driver side vent. I am import agent for this product and work closely with the manufacturer. I wouldn't put much faith in the ebay/amazon $40 jammies. Not without seeing testing and Ozone-free certification, and having an understanding of what ionization tech they are using. Negative Ion Ozone generators have been around for decades and can absolutely eliminate smoke odor from an old car... but that's a one-time use solution -- blast the interior with ozone to detoxify the car and them remove the device before it destroys your lungs.


Here are the big name Makers of ionizer consumer products supply OE devices car makers/hvac suppliers:


SHARP: Plasmacluster -- found in older Toyota Camrys and Siennas.

Panasonic: NanoE -- found in new Range Rovers and Jaguars. Includes Particulate Matter detector that measures contaminants and will turn the ionizer on if concentration levels detect poor air quality.

Samsung: Super Plasma Ions, or SPi - found in a few Mercedes Benz models with "Air Balance" package, and i believe their new "Energized comfort" package.



Very cool technology all with lab tested proven efficacy. Very relevant in 2021. Yet still very much ignored. Took a pandemic to make people think about the air they breathe in their cars(which is a lot more polluted than the air outside.) I was selling these Samsung devices in 2012 and nobody cared unless it addressed an immediate issue(mold/mildew in evaporator core {looking at You, E60 owner}, smokers car, allergies, in general, as well as that of VOC biproducts from fresh off the factory new cars, etc.)

And NO, I am not here to sell You devices, coming here is just part of my daily research routine -- and really just trying to share a bit of consumer info that tends to go unnoticed or ignored. I am in the very early stages of just relaunching the these devices as a point of sale new car dealership add-on.

I use them for my shoes. They work well. You can wear them on the longest, hottest run, put the ozone generator in them and they'll smell brand new the next day.
