Door handle LED out. Easy DIY?
My rear driver's side door handle LED is out, and was wondering if this is an easy DIY. A few other questions.
I would assume that even though I have a CPO warranty, that this would not be covered, correct? If this is not an easy DIY, what would be the approximate cost for either a dealer or indy shop to fix? Is it worth replacing all 4 handle lights at the same time, as this could be a sign that the others are reaching the end of their useable lives? Thank you in advance for the advice!

Not sure how to replace them, but I don't think they're all about to die. I still have mine and they all work no prob. 165k mi and it's a March '05 build.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...15&hg=63&fg=30 If it was just a bulb I would say CPO would not cover it, but since it looks like the door will need to be taken apart... If you do end up changing it yourself please do take some pictures. Last edited by Glim; 08-18-2011 at 10:58 PM.. |

Well, after further inspection, I see the reason my LED is out. I have no LED! I did have some minor body work recently on that side's quarter panel. I wonder if they took off the door and forgot to put it back in.

Both my passenger side handle lights are "missing" i was just wondering if my car was even suppose to come with them when i came across this thread. So all 3 of your other door handles have the light? Like said, if you do end up doing it yourself, please take pics. I might be doing this at some point in the future.

i just got my car back from getting body work done and just noticed a week later that my right rear door handle light is completely missing. looks like its something you cant just steal without removing the door panel, so now i gotta call down there and figure out what happened. odd, considering that door didnt even have work done (as far as i know).

Sorry for not resolving my original post. When I realized that the LED was missing from its housing, I called up the body shop and was told to bring it in as he thought he knew what happened. Basically they disconnected the light from it's housing and "tucked' it inside the door while the repair on that side was being performed. They forgot to reinstall it. Took them about 10 minutes, and voila! It was back just like before.
Check with your body shop. Sounds like the same thing happened to you. Yes, all E90's have them. It's a standard feature.

I've got a brand new E90/E91 right (fits both F+R) door handle LED still in original packaging from BMW. Part 63317181314.
If anyone wants it, PM me. Bought it thinking I needed to replace mine but turned out it was just unplugged |

Wow, this was a very old thread! The reason my light wasn't working was because I discovered after I had had work done on my car, they forgot to reinstall the light into the handle after putting the door back on.
If you've been slamming your door closed, it's certainly possible a connection may have come loose, causing it to stop functioning.

Old thread bump.
Has anyone figured this out? Is it an easy fix, or is removing the interior door panel necessary? The part only seems to be $40. Can we move this topic to lighting?
