Need someone to enable my cd changer

Looking for a BMW specialist to enable my CD changer. I live in the Herts/Bucks area. I know of BMWORX, but they are really busy at the moment. Anyone know of any others around Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead, Watford

Probably does but are you sure it needs coding?

make sure that the BUS fibre optic connectors have been changed, too (see instruction sheet on main page of these forums) as well as having the head unit config changed in the Retrofits menu on the head unit.

Are you sure that is the head menu? I thought that was the BMW specific coding stuff for which you need the expensive coding set up

Coodem...might be a little further than you planned to travel but try calling Mark at Cartronics in Surrey. He certainly has the kit to do it, he installed my Mobridge. He can probably tell you what you need done.

Right, thanks for all the info guys, I am however a little more confused about the install.

I understand after I have installed the changer that I will need someone to enable it.

As to the hardware install. I was under the impression, that in the UK we had the wiring harness all pre-installed, and that all I needed to do apart from the software update was to plug in MOST lead, that is currently present in the boot.

No I see from the install guide above, that I need to connect the other end of the MOST conector thats in my boot at the moment, to the MOST distribution block, which is behind the rear seat bolster. I just assumed this would have already been connected.

Anyone know anymore detail, before I start pulling the sidecovers off in my boot, and have to remove the rear seat backs, to prove it myself

Before I removed mine and had the mobridge installed I checked the rear most connection on the changer. Are you saying you have installed the CD changer physically already?

The above idea of having to tap into the MOST distribution block makes sense becuase the MOST bus is a fibre optic loop. If you had the "wiring" but no CD changer at the end of it they loop would be broken and your car will scream all sorts of error codes.

The only other thing I could suggest is that you pop the side panel down, it only takes seconds and just check to see if the cd changer connection is there. If it is I would imagine they must have put some loopback connector on the end of it to ensure the loop remains unbroken. If there is a loopback connector there you could disconnect it to verify light is coming out one side of the loop but this will throw a load of errors on the car. If there is no connector I think you those instructions are right..you have to tap a new line into the MOST distribution block.

Again..the guy I recommended can probably do all of this for you and recode the car. The other challenge if you play around with the MOST but yourself is that the errors will probably stay in the cars memory and you wont be able to clear like anyone who has the diagnostic kit is able to do.

OK, Im getting closer, I am begining to understand this whole thing a bit better, I have now located the MOST distribution block, but can't get proper access. It does not appear I have foldable rear seats. I have seen the rear seat locking pins in the upper part of the boot. But before I get spanners out, I thought I would check with others that have managed to get the rear seat back down and seek advise

OK, all sorted. Had a little play around with a torch. The to and from MOST connector in the boot was looped back on itself. So I knew I had no choice but to remove the rear seat and get to the MOST distribution block.

For other peoples info. There is another MOST connection block ontop of the primary distribution block. I just removed those 2 optic cables, pluged the lower cable into the main distribution block into the next available slot

The Upper one needs to go into slot 1, but this is already occupied, so needs to be removed and placed into the next available slot in the upper row, which frees up slot 1 for the cable to go into

Everything that work before still works, Just need to get the software updated. I am going to wait for "KEND" to get back to me with his contact, as thats fairly close to me
