I honestly don't get what people are buying with RR.

It looks like it was designed by a kid with a crayon and the inside is pimped to the point it resembles Madame's boudoir more than a rough, tough off-roader. To my eye, new RRs always look like old RRs that are missing some rust.

No doubting their off-road capabilities....perfect ride if you own a shooting and fishing estate in Scotland and a couple of labs...then I get it. But as an everyday ride....I'd put it in a similar category as the other RR....a drawing room on wheels for people who'd rather be anywhere but in a car.

This is of course my personal opinion/reaction which is down to taste (or lack thereof ) and means no disrespect to all you RR admirers

I do like the looks of the new Range Rover products but they are over-doing the front end treatment as they are all getting exactly the same front. I know lots of manufacturers are doing this but it doesn't seem as obvious on others. Saw some pics recently of the new Freelander and it has exactly the same frontal looks as the Evogue and new RRR.

A bit of differentiation would be nice.

October build slot allocated for a HSE Dynamic 3.0SDV6 RRS. I asked the dealership about changing the order to a 5.0 S/C & they said doing that will likely postpone build until January 14, I think thats March delivery. I've seen those video reviews with the supercharged exhaust sounding rather fruity.

I can't believe I am still thinking about cancelling and ordering the new X5. The X5 will probably be November delivery and I could choose either the 30d 255bhp or 50i 449bhp. The 30d is adequate but like for like a 50i is £9k more to buy but it seems more fun:-D. The 50i would keep me more than entertained until next year when I start longing for a X5 ///M. 40d not available until Jan build with probably March delivery. The 40d is the only variant I'd probably be content with, but I don't want to wait as long as March.

The X5 is looking more and more alluring with 5% off RRP compared to only goodwill on RRS. If I'm definitely going to get a petrol version, then it also gets delivered quicker. Probable more driving fun but loosing a little prestige and kerb climbing ability. As bonus man maths saving a few £££ (£6-10K over RRS).

Seriously wish I was getting on with the other pressing issues on my mind

Got to be honest, after watching this vid of the RRS. I thought it looked too much like a Freelander and had lost a good deal of it's road presence.My money would still go towards a Cayenne

I think you might find the X5 3.0d a bit underpowered, it is in the E70 therefore the new generation will possibly feel a bit similar. 40d is probably the sweet one but a long wait, petrol versions could be a bit of a heavy depreciator.

RRS should be a strong residual but the worry would be that a new model Freelander will appear soon looking just like a scaled down RRS.

Tough old choice you have there mate, but a nice position to be in.

A love/hate relationship with it at the moment, I think its a marmite vehicle and I loath the rear end!

My gripe with the previous RRS was that it was based on either the Disco or Freelander chassis - I don't remember which - which made it NOT a RR in my eyes. This one has a proper RR chassis and I haven't seen a negative review of it yet. Helped along by the fact it's around £20k cheaper than the 'standard' RR, makes it a very tempting prospect.

I wish I was in a position to buy one! Looks lovely.

Stunning, if money were no issue, id have a new RRS or new RR on my drive right now. Land Rover are most definately on the up and make some of the best 'every day' cars in the world in my view.

Have you looked at the overall finance package on these? If you have the cash outright, I agree. If your buying on PCP though, as an example, to keep the same monthly payments, you need to throw around £10k more deposit in.

Having a quick look on the uk websites there is £9,000 difference. RRS from 51,500 vs X5 from 42,500.

The new RRS sport looks like it is a much much expensive car imho.

I am of course talking about an X5 spec'd to around where you would actually consider buying one, rather than a poverty spec X5. I mean who is actually gonna buy a 25d X5 non M-Sport?

When I was looking, I was looking at an X5 40d M-Sport. Pretty bare on spec otherwise admittedly, but that starts at £55k, not £42k. Then you compare that against a poverty spec RRS HSE. Okay, there is still £5k difference, and it's worth it all day long, but the finance figures still say there is a £10k difference in deposit for that £5k OTR difference.

Anyway, I couldn't afford the RRS over the X5. And because of that, I didn't go for a 4x4 at all, instead getting a cracking deal on a well speccd 530d Touring for just now. Maybe in a few years I'll get my RRS.
