Recondition Rough Steering Wheel

My 2011 M-Sport steering wheel has developed a rough spot on the back side of the wheel where I regularly have my hand. Does anyone have a technique to recondition the leather to get it back to or close to the original smooth texture.

I would try Lexol or Leathernique. If that doesn't work some people buy covers or Coby Wheels will be the expensive alternative.
