Personally... I think it will be fine to use in your n54 or n55 like always... but don't run longer than 7500 miles or one year. |

As I said I'm set with the Mobil 1 0w40 LL-01 for 3 more changes. But I decided to look at that Castrol Edge Euro 0W40 while at Walmart. It is $22.97 and I believe that it is LL-01 and made in Germany. Why bother with $9/qt is the way I look at it, just get this stuff. p.s. all the Mobil 1 5 qt jugs are no longer LL-01, but they had individual ones still showing LL-01 @ $7.95 ea....

I made the switch to pentosin 5w30, couldnt find any reviews on it and it wasnt cheap. It has the LL01 stamp and asked the bimmer guys here and they have heard good things about it.

I have now made the switch from M1 0w40 LL01 to Castrol A3/B4 0w40 LL01.
I must report that I am very pleased with the switch. The engine is a lot quieter (especially tappet noises), and the idle is a noticeably steadier (and by that I mean measurably, with the INPA rough test gauges). I know fresh oil versus old oil is unfair, but this is more than just what you'd expect from just changing for the same. It seems like the Castrol oil keeps the pressure in the vanos better. |

I found a Mobil 1 0-40 at Autozone with the LL01 on it. I asked the guy there and surprisingly he knew what I was talking about. He said that was the last one they had but he's using the Castrol 5-30 in his BMW. That's why he didn't buy it himself. The higher viscosity of the 0-40 might be a little much for the kind of warm weather we have. He said his 3 series seem to run a little smoother with the Castrol 0-30. I think I may have to switch to try it.

Here's a bump.
I am running this oil in my 2006 330i with N52B30. Previously ran Castrol 0W40 until it wasn't sold in Canada anymore, so I went with the M1 0W40. Performance seems to be just fine. With the Castrol I was burning around 1qt every 2k miles, with the M1 perhaps 1qt every 2.5k miles. However, I am starting to see some codes popping up in the DME. I had a Check engine light set a few weeks back, and am seeing the following codes intermittently: - 29F4 and 29F5 Cat 1 and 2 below threshold - 2C7F Lambda probe after catalytic converter 2 trim control (too lean) - 2a2f mixture regulation 2 - Mixture too rich Could this be a result of the higher SAPS (Sulfated Ash, Phosphorous, and Sulfur) in the oil? Or is it likely that my O2 Sensors are on their way out? Not sure if either of them has ever been replaced. I may change this oil out and run Motomaster OEPlus 5W30 which is rebranded shell oil, and LL04 approved. What does the forum think?

The point with certification is that BMW makes the oil companies pay for certifications.
The other point is that if Mobil One was Mercedes certified when it also was LL01 certified and is still Mercedes certified, I would worry more about Covid than motor oil. |

If it is leaking you will see black soot accumulated. I would be surprised if a Canadian '06 car would not have those flanges and the nuts and bolts used completely rusted out already. |

All of it or just one specific product? I have Pentospeed Super Performance 5W40 in my car now, added a few months ago and it has the LL-01 certification. I now have a lifter ticking that was quiet with the BMW branded oil.

Roger that. I think I used Castrol before but gonna go Mobil 1 0w-40 this time around since it's readily available. Car is an early 2007 build, January actually. 335i e93 stock auto with around 50k miles. Hot and humid climate here, also have a ticking which I think is the injector tick. Lets see if the change in oil does anything.
