Camaro ZL1 Transformer Edition??

Has anyone raced one of them? I ran into Black Camaro ZL1...he said something about Transformer Edition and it is supercharged? I couldn't really hear him due to all of my windows were down...so I asked him if it's fast and he replied "very"

Long story short, we did couple pulls 60-whatever, I was in 3rd gear DTC completely off...I spun little bit but once hooked I pulled on him real real bad...I raced Mustang 5.0 before and that thing completely destroyed me (there's no way it was stock) but when I was looking at Motor Trend, ZL1 supposed to be a faster car? Is Camaro ZL1 Transformer Edition somewhat decreased in performance?

Also when you run someone, windows down makes difference? all four of my windows were down...but now I think about it, every roll on rave I saw on GTboard, once they start rolling people always roll up their windows.

Fun run though. And that thing looked AWESOME. I am seriously in love with American cars nowadays...Mustang 5.0 and that Camara ZL1 I saw today was tits!

The ZL1 is supercharged. I don't know about the Transformer edition.

Cameros are pigs, but the 5.0 Mustang is no joke. If you raced one and it destroyed you, maybe it was a Shelby GT500 in disguise

Yeah it's the same motor as in the ctsv. 550 I think they are rated at. I made 470 on 17 psi and walked one pretty hard from a 1st gear roll.

well most 5.0s that I know have tunes and a few boltons. To put it in perspective, they gain nearly as much power as we do from a tune. I see plenty running 115-117mph traps.

The ZL1s are hit and miss, yes they are supercharged but they are extremely heavy and only barely faster than a stock 5.0. They also suffer from heatsoak REALLY bad so on the street they may be even slower.

I've seen multiple ZL1s at the drag strip and they were trapping only 113 like clock work (and barely 113).

I have a feeling that was Mustang 5.0 with Vortech S/C kit. ye he told me it's Transformer Edition and I thought I heard it wrong...

As far as I know, the "Transformer's Edition" comes in yellow (like the one in the movie, Bumblebee), and has special badges.

If it was a ZL1, you'd immediately know by the hood.

If you smoked a ZL1, that makes me happy

I saw a video the other day of a FBO + Meth RB car pulling nicely on a stock ZL1. They are extremely un-impressive.

It was definitely not the SS, I have seen SS many times and I know what they look like. Mystery continues...

It was definitely a ZL1, had ZL1 badge and also BBK that says ZL1 which looked awesome. It had Quad tips...but it was the driver who told me it is Transformer Edition...I have raced Camaro SS before but one that I ran today was definitely faster with loud blower.

You have a single turbo and got walked by a 5.0? Somethings up with that mustang....def not stock. I would guess you could take the zl1, but the 5.0 loss confuses me.

The supercharged 5.0s can put down 700-800hp easily.

Any links? Quick search comes up with kits that give 550-625 hp (crank I think?).

From Vortech website:

"Tuner Kits, Upgrades, More HP

The High-Flow Competition Air Inlet Upgrade adds 20-40HP on top of a 605HP V-3 Si installation, and even more HP when used with higher boost and more agressive tuning.

For higher-horsepower, custom-tuned installations we recommend a tuner kit, which does not include a fuel pump, fuel injectors or ECU programmer. This requires you or your installer to provide custom calibration and the required fuel components. The V-3 Si supercharger included with the tuner kit is capable of up to 775HP on modified vehicles. T-Trim tuner kits are also available, and will allow for up to 825HP with the right modifications. Tuner kits are also available with the 1000HP V-7 JT supercharger for high-performance racing vehicles. Call Vortech or your dealer for more information."

Beast. Gotta love those Mustang 5.0

Ah I didn't realize the OP. Yeah man, the ZL1 they took in a car mag took a LOT of mods to run a like a low 11 or something at 130. And then a few months later they ran a GT500 with basic boltons to low 10s at 144. Fastest ZL1 I've seen stock ran a 115 or so.

Thats the Ford Racing kit, that retains factory warranty lol(for the 550hp version.) My coworker took delivery a of 2013 GT a couple weeks ago and that's an awesome car. He's already saved up for the Ford racing supercharger kit, however he's holding out because Ford just released the twin turbo mustang Cobrajet and whatever they use almost always becomes a ford racing part soon after. He's hoping that next there will be a Ford racing TT kit.

Back semi on topic: I can see any number of mildly modded american cars raping current "gen" single turbo N54. The N54 really isn't capable of playing with the big boys yet, we need bigger turbos than what has been used so far.

Well, you know what they say......."There's no replacement for displacement". We are giving up 2 liters here and I don't think there is a big enough turbo to compensate for that. Ford built a true muscle car. BWM just happened to build an entry luxury car that is extremely and surprisingly quick. Sometimes us buyers get lucky (think buick grand national). At the end of the day, I think we can still hold our heads up high lol.
