A mate of mine lost a some of his sight through one of his eyes as a child when he had an accident with a rose thorn. You wouldn't know at all that he didn't have 20/20 vision. As you say, you just adapt (oh, and take your driving test more often - not in the SR3 hopefully!!!), but fingers crossed you get as near to 100% vision as possible mate.

Hmmm. Well I just have a couple of things to say...

Firstly, I am sorry to hear this, its a total bummer and yet I guess could have been a million times worse, I wish you a speedy recovery mate.

Secondly, I wish I had facial hair that just stayed at the 'slightly manly' stage. One day I am clean shaven, and the next morning I look like Brian Blessed.

Ah well, some people have all the luck!!

Unfortunately, it doesn't stay at that stage... even when your injured, you can still groom yourself!

So unlucky in one hand and extremely lucky in the other.

I have shot hundreds of nails into concrete some years ago without eye defenders. I'll definately think twice if ever I do it again.

Get well soon Anthony

Don't know you mate, but have read many posts with your name mentioned. Just wanted to say good luck with your recovery from a terrible and totally shocking accident and all the best to you and your family.

Having had eye surgery three times under GA (retinal detachment) and one while I was awake EEK I know how well the human eye repairs itself and your sight returns to near-normal.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery Ant. I was cringing looking at the pics, wondering what was going to come next!

Nail guns? Work of the devil. Very useful in the right application (fencing, joinery etc) but they still scare the crap outta me.

Bloody hell!! Sounds daft to say but everyone's right and sure you'll probably think the same - could have been much worse.

Those pics. give an excellent 'time lapse' of how clever the human body is at repairing itself.

Wish you all the best luv.

Updated pic for Wednesday 29th July 09, The swelling is almost gone, black eye is starting to go yellow, more pain today for some reason, but a little more perifferal vision back, poss around 1-2% back at the moment. Nothing useable, but its a start!

Cheers for all the kind words and support guys 'n' gals, it means a lot.

Hope you get well soon and get your vision back.

I met Ant today and can report he's doing well. Had a little hand waving exercise whilst trying to work out what he could see or not

Was intoduced to 'THE NAIL', holy f*ck, the thought of that thing coming at you at 500mph is just plain scary. 'Luckily' it seems it was already bent on exiting the gun otherwise, if it was straight, they'd be no stopping it and... ...well, doesn't bear thinking about.

Thanks Ant for looking after my tyres; your wife can fill the empty space now

holy f**k... Nasty !!! Really glad you're still typing/talking/walking sounds like it could have been terminal !!

Hopefully the eye continues to improve and you're back to normal ASAP !

Lesson to all re-eye protection I guess, though like you said at the speed those guns work that was like being shot with a .25 Full power Air rifle.. Damn !
