Dealer Wont Fix 2A87?? Vanos Solenoid Mod Friendly Dallas Area Dealership Needed
Took my 335 to Dallas BMW and it took them a week to tell me that they essentially can't figure out what is wrong with my car due to my mods. (FMIC, DCI, Catless DPs).
My car has thrown the Vanos Solenoid code and I told them this, yet they are convinced that is not the problem and will not perform the service bulletin procedure. From the symptoms it seems most assuredly the Vanos Solenoid. Symptoms: - Frequent Limp Modes -Sometimes on cold start car with immediately enter limp from start-up. RPMs will fluctuate for about 20 seconds around 1k RPM as if to keep the motor from stalling. Reduced power beyond boost deactivation; car has difficulty accelerating past 20 mph -When not in limp car drives fine (Although a strange "roughness" in the exhaust note is detectable under heavy throttle/acceleration) - Original fuel pump, no fuel pump codes -Accelerator pedal sensor code (sometimes) Any info? interesting.. My car did this the other day I wonder what it means.. I turned the car on and off and it worked fine

^ That could be a sign of impending HPFP failure . . . or the same vanos issue.
Anyone have a dealership in DFW they would recommend? Dallas BMW is a joke. |

replacing the vanos solenoid is super easy. Took me 15 min to replace both of them.

You are lucky they didn't try to void your warranty. Personally, I don't blame them. They are not experts on mods and how they effect the BMW system (if at all).

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
