Service Icon???
I just bought my 2006 325i a couple of weeks ago and the service light came on last night. I'm not familiar with BMWs so could you guys help me out?? When I start the car, the icon that comes up is in yellow and is a car on a lift. It stays on for a few seconds and goes away. No other lights come on or stay on. The only thing else I've noticed is the little triangle with the exclamation mark stays on in the display.

The CBS is explained in the owner's manual and in the separate maintenance manual. When a particular service needs attention the instrument cluster will show the type of service due upon engine start up and shut down as a reminder to the driver. The owner's manual shows you how to use the turnsignal stalk (on non i-drive cars) to review when the next service is due. The CBS will show you the estimated miles left until a service is due and the estimated date will the service will be due.
There are not many service indicators; oil change, brake fluid change, cabin airfilter change, brake pad change (this is a light that is separate from the center display and stays on once the pads have reached the service limit), and the 30,000 mile inspection. The notification you are getting is the 30,000 mile inspection. You can take the car to the dealer and pay to have the car inspected. The dealer will look over the car and read the DME for fault codes. Or you can just reset the service indicator and not worry about it. The dealer at the 30,000 inspection does not perform any service on the vehicle, just inspects it. |
