Make sure you connect it up to the terminals in the engine bay and not across the battery:

The negative terminal must be attached to the shiny hex stud. If you clamp on something like the strut tower bolts they are galvanised and give you poor electrical contact.

ppk refresh done, took about 40 minutes and no problem with battery. Thanks for advising mate

Just having a read through.
What is the battery charger for?
Is it to keep it charged and not go flat?
Or is this something that is required when doing a tune or something as PPK (which I'm assuming is a program), seems to be mentioned a fair bit.

-Keep battery at max
-Needed for flash tunes as the ignition needs to be on but engine off so battery gets drained during flashing process.

PPK is the Power Performance Kit, it's a BMW flash

The batt charger is only needed if you are flashing your car with a tune.. It's the LPFP that drains the battery, as it's running the whole time the car is being flashed.

You can pull the fuse for the lpfp when flashing, which will work also - but the batt charger is still recommended.

By the way, any backing up of Cyl's claim to not use own car as a jump start for another with a dead battery?

Ok so after almost a year of topping my battery up with the charger, it now just says low batter warning. So no more mhd flashes until I get a new one. Does anyone know where to get a good battery for the e82 because I can't find suppliers for Bosch.

I also read it somewhere online in the past only.
I would also like to know if it's true too.
But since then, I always avoid helping people to jump start their car. Lol

hi VTL,

I bought one of those Dynahub chargers off ebay (exactly like in your link).

Do you know if the fan is meant to run all the time? Mine started with the fan running, and then stopped within 2 minutes. THe unit still says 'charging' not 'full'

cheers

It might run the fan at startup until it can determine the temperature, might new a few minutes to get the average temp

that's kind of what I was hoping....but I remember the only other time I used it, the fan stayed on continuously.

Last thing I want is the charger to overheat and go up and in flames...taking my car with it

Fan runs according to the load. High charge load = fan, low load fan doesnt run.

Reviving this oldish thread regarding the DynaHUB chargers.

Bought my dynahub charger back in July 2016.

Noticed that my dynahub charger reads "FULL" at about 13.7/13.8v (while still clamped to terminals and charging - I've removed positive and negative leads and charged the battery directly)
Took off the charger and put multimeter to terminals and the battery reads 12.4v ! Really odd.

Battery is about 6-7months old.
ensured battery that amp hour (AH) is correct using INPA and "registered" battery with MHD.

Is the dynahub charger i have faulty

Normal.

The battery has an internal resistance.

When charging you need a higher voltage to force current in as well as account for voltage drop across the internal resistance.

When you pull the charger off and the car draws a small amount of current to run various electronics you get a voltage drop in the other direction giving you slightly lower voltage at the terminals.

Depending on how much current is being drawn you can actually prove this by measuring the voltage then disconnecting the negative? terminal and remeasuring the voltage, you should see them go up slightly now the battery is unloaded. Obviously if the car isn't drawing much current you won't see too much difference after disconnecting the terminal.

I should have been a bit clearer. The whole process was done with the battery not hooked up to the car, i guess as if I've removed the battery out of the car.

Took off the + and - leads and charged the battery to "FULL" then while the + and - leads were still off I took off the charger and multimetered the battery and measured 12.4v.
Makes me think that the DynaHub isnt charging to true full capacity.

Can someone answer this? What is the fuse knob on the charger you linked? Does it need to be on/off when charging?

Thanks guys, I am thinking of flashing my car as well with MHD
