Safe to know. That's the idea (i.e to pass in a year while working a job at the same time).

Management accounting is much better than the normal kind. Majority of board directors have accountancy qualifications.

I've done Financial Accounting at uni level and YUCK! So many standards and disciplines involved. From what I've seen/heard at grad recruitments CIMA is more flexible/transferable around different industries.

Gotta finish uni first though *sigh*

Oi!! As a CA, I resent than

I think I know what you mean NFS!!

SiKkBaSs - best of luck with the training - definitely worth the effort as it will open many doors down the line.

I am a director on 14 boards at the moment (I represent a large institutional investor) and I find an accounting qualification very useful in my day job even if I am not a practising accountant.

Well, many of said companies are in financial difficulty so it has been a cr*p 2 years with tough decisions around making staff redundant, negotiations with banks to re-finance debt and I even had to put one company into administration against the wishes of the shareholder I represent (and who pays my salary every month ). I have learned a lot in the recession though and, as they say, what dosen't kill you makes you stronger!!!

Overall though I have a very interesting and challenging job!

sickbass, best to get P4 and P5 out of way before looking for a job, as its really difficult in accountancy without experience.

Thing is I graduate in June and it's just uni until then...getting work experience will be hard during this time. Plus loads of employers aren't recruiting anyone for work experience...it SUX!

I'd be happy to work for any finance division in any company during Xmas even if it was unpaid just for the experience!

Write to a few FD's (names published in annual accounts) of big companies requesting work experience. Initiative often shines through.

I qualified ACCA in 2000 - best thing I ever did, it opens so many doors

Bloody tough to pass though, and ironically I still find finance boring despite doing it now for 21 years lol

I got a basic accounting and book keeping qualification when we started the company - has genuinely been useful many times. Not very thrilling though.

You can be a "Director" for about £30...!

Nothing special in many cases - job titles are sooooo 80s...
