Right, it's time to pipe up now!

As has already been mentioned by others, if it won't turn on AT ALL then you won't be able to sync it. You appear to have tried everything so if you bought it from Carphone, take it back and they will be able to find our details (even without the receipt, they can find it by your name, address or phone serial number). They will send it off and it'll get sorted for you.

If you have any problems with them, give me a buzz!

Now, calm yourself down! And when you get your phone back, make sure you plug it into I-Tunes every week and BACK IT UP! It'll save a load of hassle if it goes wrong again and you won't lose your apps, contacts or anything else you have on it.

Hi it should appear as an item between "store" and "shared" or thereabouts.

It sounds bust - as stated I think you've been unlucky - I know loads of people with iphones and yours is the first faulty one. To be honest it is quite impressive how stable the iphone is given all the crap I've downloaded to it - don't give up. Is yours a 3GS?

Register the new phone.

Keep it plugged into the computer. Once it's registered, it'll ask you whether you want to use an old backup of your previous phone to restore this new phone - click YES.

Then wait.

Wait some more, then it should say that there is a new software version (3.1.2) and would you like to update that. Click YES again. Wait some more (it'll take a while because it needs to download a 245Mb file). Then it'll start to update your phone. Keep it plugged in all the time. Once it's updated, it should then automatically sync all the old applications etc etc...

If in doubt, wait till tomorrow and I'll sort it when I see you. You'll need to bring the laptop with you though.

Everyone with an iPhone 3G or 3GS needs to get it updated to the latest 3.1.2 software, which cures the 'not-turning-on' bug once that phone has gone to 'sleep'

Nothing to do with the 3GS - happens to a normal 3G too. The problem was the V3.1 software which had a couple of bugs in it.
