Just picked mine up from the retrofit about an hour ago. Same oil gauge.

As for part number, there is no "kit" part number, at least not on my invoice. Rather, there are about 30 separate parts numbers for each of the components of the "kit".

FWIW, the order for my parts went in about 2-months ago, so I don't doubt there is a backlog on parts availability.

Did it include and oil change? Also how long did it take them, 1 day or longer.

How much has your oil temperature gone down since install?

As far as oil temp going down after install, I've driven the car for only 15 minutes! Also, the oil cooler has a thermostat so oil only gets extra-cooled if temp goes above a certain point. So I don't know...the real test is to make sure it does not overheat on the track...my track date is June 9-10.

It took them a week to do the install thanks to a mislabeled part from the original order that had to be air shipped from Germany, but the actual install + testing time was about 5 hours according to the shop manager. Yes, they did change the oil and oil filter.

I keep reading about the oil coolers and automatics.
Does this overheating issue strictly deal with automatics or does it deal with manuals as well? In other words, is my manual going to have an oil cooler?

I did a test with my 335i today...I had the AC full blast and in sport mode on a 77 degree day. The oil temp just KEPT climbing...240...245...250...255..260...265...by the time I got home it was still going up. I am pissed, and BMW requires a signed release form. Anyone get this done WITHOUT signing a form?

Hi guys. I thought I should give my experience from Sydney Australia. It is my understanding that, as a result of our climate, Oz spec BMWs are generally “beefed up” to cope with our warmer temperatures. For instance, I have been told that our A/C units are normally stronger than those supplied to Europe. Perhaps our 335’s come standard with sufficient oil cooling as well.

I did a test today. Driving home from work with the outside temperature at 23.5C/74F my oil temperature did not rise above 98C/208F. From memory, I don’t recall the gauge ever reading above half way during our summer where the outside temperature will hit 38C/100F plus.

My car is a Steptronic coupe and I did notice it had the cooling grill in the right inside front guard.

Anyway, I just checked my car. There are two (2) oil coolers, the larger one located near the right side of the front wheel (just like in Photo A) and the smaller one located near the left side of the front wheel (no photos available).

After driving your car and park for approximately 5 - 10 minutes, the area around the top of the hood behind both the front lights and above both wheels will feel "hot". You should feel the right side hotter than the left side (I assume the oil cooler on the right side is bigger than the left side).

Let me know if your cars dissipate heat in the same manner after it is driven and parked.

i have no oil cooler too. and i went dealer given my phone number and VIN # to the service manager, they said they gona call bmw and then they will call me . but one thing is for sure is bmw going to recall these old product to undata it. dont worry..

Retrofit Done: Update, May 19th, 2007

Mine was done in one day. Dropped off in morning, picked up in afternoon. Guage is same.

Much cooler running under hard conditions. Is running 20-40 degrees cooler.

Yes, I signed the release.

Shelly BMW did install.

I went out to check my car as soon as I saw this post. I have a BIG question. Do you have to remove any covers to see the oil cooler, or is it exactly as shown in the OP's picture?

I'm gettin a sinkin feelin that I don't have one

I have a Auto with NO cooler and have been running HARD for a couple weeks now in 100 deg weather and have not gone over 260 deg. Last weekend I did 8 consecutive runs 60-130's 0-150's ect. I still WANT a oil cooler, but for me it doesnt seem like I need to be concerned about blowing it up.

It won't go too high doing the 60-130 as there is enuf airflow at those speeds to haul away the heat from under the tight cowl. It's when you are down low and slow under M shifting with stop and go, hard acceleration with no high speed to cool things off..

Hopefully, you won't ever get bugs/dirt in your rad later on as the car is entirely dependent on the radiator working flat out to get rid of the heat.. even then it floats, so it's already at 100%+ for heat rejection and can't keep the design temp of 240 brand new...

Not yet I was just told that they ordered it. I probably will have to when it arrives at the dealership and i want to get it installed.
