no contact, just taking part no. from realoem.com and go to Faulkner's site. Cheaper than anywhere else I have seen. Part no. in general

Definitely cheaper, probably not over $300 in any event. Possibly much less, but I'd go to the best shop you can find. These are commonly masked and painted right on the car so you don't even have the labor taking the thing off.

I personally wanted to do vinyl to 'try it' before painting but have zero reservations about the paint method vs replacement with oem trim. If it's done right by a body shop, no one would ever know the difference unless the car gets wrecked and they have to take it off, in which case they'd have bigger problems...

Paint would chip very easily.

I disagree, unless you plan to do some rally events. How many stone chips do you have on your driver's door? I'll bet not many...

I priced it out (E92) on Faulkner's site:

Faulkner: $1060 prior to shipping

Tischer: $1075 prior to shipping

Tischer is a site sponsor, and has treated the forums well. For a well respected sponsor, I will probably go Tischer. (Long story, but I have free shipping on my next order through them).

Good to know that there is some competition though for cheaper parts.

You don't take your car offroad rallying?

Bit of on-road snow rally driving last night actually. Very enjoyable beer run.

FWIW, I believe that window trim properly painted at a body shop would be every bit as resolute as you'd need it to be. $1100+ on a window trim swap is obscene in my opinion.

That said, if you decide to do it, let me know about your chrome trim. I'd like to paint it gloss black

Even a base of primer would get it to stick much better than just applying the finish coat to the raw surface.

Good lord, its $380 for the matte black trim on an E90 and $810 for the E92?? Wow, why the huge difference?

I think even if I painted the stock chrome trim, I'd take it off the car first. I've painted a bunch of stuff on my Jeep, but I've also slammed it into rocks on multiple occasions. I don't really want to take spray paint anywhere near my BMW.

I painted a set of aluminum wheels for my last vehicle(lifted 08 F150) and they came out awesome. Never had any durability problems and wheels see a lot more abuse than window trim does. Take your time with a rattle can and you can't tell the difference from a body shop doing it. I'm nit picky about stuff like that too.

Wow a cool $1k for window trim!? I'm going to give the vinyl a shot for $30, and paint it if that doesn't turn out.

Powder coating the aluminum would look better than paint IMO and it would be more durable.

That's a good point though you would obviously have to remove and reinstall the trim if you did that. I know a place in Gaithersburg that does pc'ing. Should be just as reasonable as getting them painted by a pro.

If you're willing to drive out to VA for the pc job, American Stripping Co. did a great job on my wheels and a friend's roll cage. http://www.ascoweb.com/

Call or email them for a quote. It depends on the part and tier of powder you want. I exchanged emails with James Sejd, who is the manager of the office/plant. He also gave me a new customer discount.

Where was this thread last week!? LOL I bought the vinyl trim but after reading this I think I'll scrap that and go with the real deal. I would like to be included on some massive install block party, NoVa is not that far from MD!

Can someone explain why the e90 trim is so much cheaper than the e92? Is it me or would the e90 have more pieces? Not that I'm complaining since I have an e90!
