Hey quick question for u. Our turbos are made by mitsubishi.
ECS also sells the brand new oem mitsubishi turbos for less price. Their the same as genuine oem with the exception they dont have the bmw logo. The genuie oem turbos are remanufactured thats why they have a core charge. No core charge fir the oem mitsubishi ones. That do think of the the ones directly from mitsubishi? Wouldnt they be better? Since they r brand ne and not remanufactured? + cheaper? |

I accidentally bought the trans mounts for the 335i not the xi so I didn't put them in. But I figured since I would have the subframe out, it would make sense to replace the mounts.

Didn't see the second question. The tow hook located in the trunk screws into the motor. I was hesitant to climb underneath at first, but got over it haha. In the end I had the motor on the lift for almost a week and it did not budget a hair. I liked the idea of the fender engine lift, but the one I got is more practical. Plus I can be use it to pull the motor, when I eventually upgrade to single turbo

I also just purchased some OEM Mitsubishi Turbos from FCPeuro at a price match from Importtec warehouse coming in at just over 1200USD delivered. The turbos says on the exhaust manifold that it is made in July 2016, so I assume its the updated model? And also I can feel a tiny bit of wastegate play when I wiggle around on the wastegate arm. Is that supposed to be normal?

I'm at 122k and I have bad wastegate rattle. I'm actually taking my car in the shop tomorrow to get both of my turbos replaced. With parts and labor I'm looking at 4K out the door. I'm going with OEM turbos as well, that way I get the warranty on them.

Wastegate rattle can cause low boost problems and go into limp mode. The wastegate is part of the turbo assembly so the turbo, manifold and wastegate come as one piece.

The wastegate hangs open instead of staying shut, and lets all of the wonderful boost out.

Nicely done replacing turbos yourself
103000 miles (165762km) on my original turbos no wastegate rattle or smoke & still does a 109.6mph 1/4 mile terminal speed

Surprised to see this thread get revived. If you guy need more information let me know, I got busy with school and forgot to come back to this. Currently have 12k on the turbos with no issues, running 18.5psi daily.

Good how to, I just wished I had the tools. It's going to cost me an arm and a leg to get them replaced.

If it were reversed yeah, but we have high pressure inside (atmosphere + boost level) the piping and low pressure outside (atmosphere) so the boost is always trying to push the wastegate open, but a real strong spring keep it shut. Over time the wastegate wears down and gets all floppy, and can't keep the piping shut, then boost leaks out.

Thanks for the explanation. But wouldn't a good fail safe be making it in reverse? What would happen if it couldn't expel the boost into the atmosphere? |
