Curious, USB Hub question

Just curious, what is the USB hub for? I know that links between the USB unit in center armrest, but where does it link else where?

Hmm, to simplify the cable system, couldn't the cable line go directly connected from the center arm rest USB unit to MULF2 in the trunk? (delete the USB hub connection?)

It might be possible. But you will need to cut and join wires since the connectors from hub to mulf2 and mulf2 to USB socket are different.

A hub by definition joins two or more connections. Therefore the USB hub joins the center console USB port with the phone cradle USB port.

Then it connects to the MULF.

Not in my 2009. I retrofit the 6FL kit, and the USB hub connects the USB port in the console to the MULF. No phone cradle USB port involved.

My post refers to the factory-installed 6FL.

Factory installed 6FL doesn't necessary come with phone cradle. Mine only has professional radio with 6FL without Bluetooth or phone cradle.

I'm talking about the hub and the MULF-Hi. The hub is there regardless of the phone cradle being physically installed or not.

How about cars fitted with the Professional Radio with 6FL option but without the MULF-HI. Do they have the USB-HUB also?

I have retrofitted such radio into my MY2006 E91. The USB connection works like a charm without the HUB - but I am just currious to know if the HUB would be there from factory.

MULF-Hi = 6FL

Again... the hub splits two USB connections. So there's no need of any hub if only one USB port will be installed.

The Combox eliminated the need of a hub as it has two USB ports jacks.

Separate USB port/cable direct to the CIC. That's not part of the MULF-Hi or Combox USB ports.

This is information I've searching, understanding why the need of the USB hub. For some have reported that they have not installed the hub inclusion of the hub. At the time, I just didn't get it. I intend to only use one port (in the center armrest). Now I can move forward with my project without installing the hub -thanks.

Does anyone know if I can hook up an external USB hub to the USB port in the arm rest? I have an odd requirement: I'll be living in Germany for one more year but my 535ix is American spec. In order for me to have the European maps for the navigation system I have to have a memory stick plugged into the only USB port (in the arm rest--no more glove box USB in 2013 model). By having the only USB port occupied with the nav maps stick I cannot play my iPod classic with full functionality--the AUX cable completely destroys the fidelity of the music and you don't get iPod functions on the screen.

In case someone is curious, I cannot download the maps to the hard drive. The stick MUST be in the USB port at all times or I will lose the maps completely.

So to summarize, I would like to have a bus powered USB spitter plugged into the one USB port that will accommodate both the USB stick for the Nav system and one for the iPod classic--CAN IT BE DONE?
