Finding a lot of options:

1. XTRONS 8.8 Inch for $389
2. Something here for $550 - https://shoptfb.com/products/bmw-ccc...auto-interface
3. Mr12Volt - https://www.mr12volt.com/collections...ts/p2000-cccmd for $430

I have no clue as to the things I should check before I buy. Hopefully everything works after I install i.e. speakers, radio etc. Does anyone have suggestions about which one I should go for? Am happy to pay more for something that is solid and reliable - + am happy to get extra features such as rear camera etc.

first thing you have to know is which sound system you have and that
is the speakers and amp and not the head unit.
You can pretty much only install the piggy back option if you have a idrive.

If you have the logic 7 sound system it is really difficult to modify that one.
Because of the fiber optic interface between the bmw head unit and amplifier.

If you care about sound quality and want to add carplay I would go with
my12volt because it is the only one that is compatible with the fiberoptic output
which is necessary to retain audio quality as the Aux in BMW's suck .

I really like my AVIN unit. Had a few bump getting it finally setup on calls, but their service helped me through it.

I'm on Android Auto, but I believe the hardware is the same.

There's a lot on install in that thread, and it goes back 5+ years. But plenty of pages to search through with questions. I had a stereo shop install mine.

7xx only for IA (individual audio option )

You have the Individual system. Excellent components, comparable to high end aftermarket stuff.

I’d go with a Mr12Volt MOST interface to get the most out of your system.

anyway to work with JB4 connect with Mr12Volt?

Main reason why I want to go full android is for JB4, non-play store apps, mp3, full waze, etc.

Mr.12volt should address everything but the first 2 via CarPlay. Don’t have anything Google so I don’t know about Android Auto.

JB4 would connect via the phone, can’t speak to non Play Store apps but I’d imagine that would depend on the connected phone.
