Should I install Aftermarket Eonon Head Unit?
Ok, so I bought my 335d used and it doesn't have bluetooth or iDrive (which is a good thing, seeing how outdated and user-unfriendly the system is). Originally, I wanted to retrofit the bluetooth, but that's about $1,000 for that installation.
So, I came across the Eonon GA8165 head unit and it seems good from the reviews. It runs on android OS and has bluetooth, Google maps, a touchscreen and access to all apps on android phones. It's also just $319, significantly cheaper than a BT retrofit. So here's my question: is it worth it installing this head unit? I've heard some people say that you shouldn't remove the OEM head unit because it causes electronic problems. Does the Eonon unit do the same? Do the steering wheel controls work properly. How is the quality of the unit? I'm worried about it being a cheap Chinese unit. Any Eonon head unit owners willing to chime in? |

So, I ended up buying the Eonon GA8165 and just installed it. It's decent, but not as good as i expected. The bluetooth works, and you can hear the other person well, but the microphone that Eonon included is poor quality. Also, I can't seem to be able to download my contacts from my phone to the head unit. I press the download contacts button, but it doesn't do anything. Bluetooth audio works well, and I haven't tested the navigation yet. I will post a review later (after I test all the features).

Does anyone know if these eonon units still retain full functionality of the OBD port as far as passing inspections and reading and clearings codes? I've been looking at the 8165a and seems like it has good reviews on YouTube.

I'm curious to how people have found this stereo too, was also looking at Xtrons. I realise Dynavin is the top brand but at £600 it's more than I want to spend on s stereo. Hope to hear a review soon

I just took my eonon off, guys. I felt that my phone was still superior to it, so it was becoming uneccessary. It didn’t seem stock as I wanted it to be. More importantly, the sound quality of our stock HU is way better. Just my review after having it on for 9mos.

I've had my eonon 9165 for a month now and i have nothing bad to say about it. It transformed the whole car experience for me. I routed the microphone into the sunroof console where the factory microphone is and taking calls works good. Reception is good I would say no different then a aging professional head unit with lcd pixel issues that I had in there.
Streaming directly from YouTube and having waze in background at the same time is what I mostly use and they work great. Bluetooth phone calls are a breeze everything works as it should so far. I did also buy a gps micro sd card for gps in case I run into a place where I have no reception and all in with a 20 percent coupon I was At 295$. Install was a breeze everything is plug and play and can revert to stock in half hour. |

Which model did you have? I'm curious about sound quality also, and it's hard to get good info because to many, "decent" sound quality is good enough, but those opinions don't tell the full story for those who may be more critical...

ha ha...… its ONLY stupid if no one told you about the shortcut menu feature !!! press and hold the iDrive knob in the direction of the feature set you want for two seconds and it will jump from wherever to the top of the selected feature list knowing that saves multiple nudges and clicks and if you really care, buy a later switch off ebay and plug it in, it'll work if your car has any version of software that's remotely fit / safe for use. or if a narrow screen if you apply the 2009 software update to the mask g2 |

I realise this thread may be little old but hopefully someone will be able to help. I have a 320D pre lci, no I drive and no usb. I was looking at this unit or similar but I don’t think anyone answered if you need to install the original head unit too, seen lots of threads bout having to install the original head unit for software updates etc... which seems a real pain. Alternatively I’m thinking Bury CC 9058 cheaper and keeps original head unit. It offers little in way of upgrading the sound system...

2007 328xi with BMW Professional Head Unit
Hey everyone, I have the stock BMW head unit still and wondering if the Eonon9165 will work for me?
Do I need additional install adapters, etc as the BMW head unit is a single din and this a double. anything else to watch out for? |
