Looks like the constant criticism has gotten to them... makes sense, as it was honestly a bit rude in a way to charge for a feature that many <$20k cars come with standard on cars that cost anywhere for $40k-$200k, hopefully the connection issues also start being solved.

I wonder if refunds will go to those who paid for it?
The connection issue is an iOS fault. Update to the latest iOS to fix it.
Is it full screen or 1/2?

Updated Autoblog article says this will apply to 2019 & 2020 models:

"Update: BMW tells us that this change is taking place "immediately." All 2019 and 2020 models equipped with Apple CarPlay will not have to pay an annual subscription, BMW says. There's still no official word on refunds for folks who already paid."

This is why I'm taking their hoax statement with a grain of salt....they're uninformed but don't want to sound like they are.

Here is nothing better to cheapen and toyify an otherwise classy, luxurious automobile like a colorful app collage. Shame that these are catching on. When will the madness end?

I was just looking at the center stack in my car and those glowing orange buttons and lights. It was nighttime and raining, and inside the cabin absolute silence and beauty. It reminded me of an E39. And then I realized that all this is going away. The analog gauges, the classic BM orange glow, all being replaced for screens. So sad for a generation that fee up on it. My kids will never know how special these cars were at one time.

Weird. I went and checked my wife's 2018 X1 and it's working...production date was March 2018 if I recall correctly

But it seems BMW Malaysia is still offering us subscription per month with flying high prices. What a fucked up greedy corporation.

I use it for Waze as sorta of radar detector since my V1 is now broken and it's a great substitute.

Well, you all can thank me later, as I'm sure this announcement is due to me complaining about this dumb@$$ policy in my recent CS survey after picking up our '19 X3.

ConnectedDrive website still shows expiration for next year, however. I'm sure BMW will take their time updating things.

On hold with BMW Assist right now getting a refund for the CarPlay 20-year subscription I just paid for. Great timing since I have plenty of time left before the current subscription expires. Yay!

My 2019 430 was originally put in service on May, 2018 as a BMW NA corporate car. I bought it in December 2018, with Apple CarPlay functioning just fine. Come April 2019 and I get a letter from BMW saying that I need to cough up some $80 (?) to continue using Apple CarPlay. I wasn't crazy about it so I let the thing go by and come May 2019 and ACP disappeared from my car. Clunky as ACP is I would like to have it back since Google Maps is my preferred NAV mode. I checked about an hour ago on my car and Connected Drive Store still shows it at $300. Will check tomorrow see if there is any change and I can reinstall ACP. Hoping to hear from your experiences if any of you are in a similar situation.

You are correct! Just went to my 2020 M4 with iDrive 6 and it showed up in Connected Drive! I'm good for 20 years and didn't even have to sign up for it.

I just need to install the full screen patch now.

Had to purchase the file from a vendor on here - I have yet to install it but for my car I need a Windows machine and an ENET cable. Takes a few minutes and it's a very easy process!

At last! I have to say BMW's implementation of CarPlay prior to this has to have been one of the most confusing and customer hostile acts I have witnessed. It was complex, lacked rationale and flew in the face of what other carmakers do. Thank goodness BMW finally came to its senses
