I hear you about that 10 cups a day. Scooby Doo personality was spot on for these danes.

Costco sells quality dog food at reasonable prices. Otherwise I'd hire a personal dog chef. They are cheaper than you'd think.

Be careful. A lot of recalls and pets have died from their food. Check where it is made.

I was buying those frozen meat patties for a while, about $30 for a 5lb bag. Fed the beast for about 3 weeks on that. The local supplier kept have freezer issues, so we switched to Blue Buffalo supplemented with flavorings from our dinners. IE last night I put the dry in her bowl, then a few tablespoons of the fat/broth skimmed out of the crockpot of pork shoulder. This morning she got some of the coagulated fat off the top of the bowl before I left for work.

My dog has been eating various flavors of Taste of the Wild and not one issue. $13.00 for 5lb bag. Treats are canned pumpkin frozen in ice cube trays and she loves diced up squash and zucchini.

Man, after reading what you all spend to feed your dogs, I feel like I may owe my 17 year old still-very-healthy-and-happy Cocker Spaniel and my 10 year old healthy-and-happy Cav something better to eat than the Pedigree that I've fed them since puppyhood....I'll just give them each an extra Milkbone when we get back from our walk tonight.

The extra I spend on more expensive food I save on poop clean-up. Far less "volume" per crap.

Funny thing about crapping and dog: EVERY single time I happen to take the dog with me to fill up a car at this one Shell station, the dog has to take a dump. EVERY SINGLE TIME.

You are lucky with the cav. I have 2 (ages 10 and 11). Both have required hypoallergenic food for years. Both have had significant medical bills (one has cardiologist and the other had a cornea transplant earlier this year). Bills really ratcheted up around 8-10 years old.

I have a Darwin's subscription but Blue Ridge beef is great too. My GSD is on a raw only diet. She snack on apples, and raw eggs as well. Her teeth are immaculate from the chicken bones and her coat is amazing. I spend around $300 a month or less than $100 per week which is great. My previous dogs on kibble had gum disease and organ failure which lead me to an alternative diet.

This is very true. When I picked up my GSD she as still on a kibble diet and was plopping down stank mountains. Once she was fully converted to the raw diet she pipes out little nuggets with little odor.

X2. Recommended by our vet to get away from wheat because of skin allergies and have been happy with the results with the food we get there. Lab is 9 years old, weight is where it is supposed to be, he is very healthy, not seeing any good reason to change. 35 lbs. about $35.

I read the ingredients and didn't see anything I wouldn't eat, possibly not the best but I don't eat perfectly either.

I guess it's cause I'm from a different ethnicity, but I just can't understand white people are their obsession with dogs.

I mean, they don't brush 2x day, don't shower daily, and they lick their asses.

I always buy my dog food from Amazon. That's the cheapest place I found for the brand (Wellness Complete) that I feed my dog

Wow, yes I do feel lucky. A lot of Cavs are real heart breakers with their medical problems. I am sorry that yours fall into the "heartbreak" category, they are such nice dogs.

I cycle through Fromm, Blue Buffalo, Merrick, and Orijen. Always grain-free. Dog seems happy, although she's never been a dog to rush to the bowl to eat.

Had my little girl pass away on my this Sunday. She was only 8 years old. My baby was diagnosed with IMHA back in late August. I invested over $10k into saving her but she passed while my fiance and I where holding her this last Sunday at around 9am. I guess my silver lining is that at least she died in the arms of those who love her.
As far as her diet goes she was fed very well.. From my research what possibly triggered the IMHA is her immunizations when she was a puppy and the use of that flea and tick medicine. Lesson learned when I get another Maltese she will not be subjected to any shots, and I'll use a natural essential oil as a flea/tick preventative.
