As far as her diet goes she was fed very well.. From my research what possibly triggered the IMHA is her immunizations when she was a puppy and the use of that flea and tick medicine. Lesson learned when I get another Maltese she will not be subjected to any shots, and I'll use a natural essential oil as a flea/tick preventative.
It's never easy to lose such a big part of our families. Even if they lived twice as long as they are supposed to, it's never long enough. She and you were very lucky to have found each other though. I am sorry, it sounds like you did your best to give her a good life up until the end!

Sorry for your loss. I'm still amazed at how attached we become to our furry buddies. I still miss my guy who passed away 4 years ago.

They were very healthy for many years, but the heart condition (heart murmurs / MVD) pretty much affects all of them eventually as they age. Some get it very young and those are heartbreakers. We're still not sure WTF the other one did to his eye but I'm out $5K and he didn't recover vision in that eye. Both are still great dogs - just more expensive as they get older.

My Border Collie can't keep a meal down every now and then.
He gets Blue Buffalo and then the next bag is the non grain from Costco, then back to Blue Buffalo.

How is that a lot? That's literally all he will eat for the next month, or 2 if hes smaller....do you not want him to eat at the very least something quality? The treats are stupid expensive, yes, but for quality dog food, she probably paid $50-$70..
Think about it, they eat the same meal every damn day and night...I bet you eat $178 buck every week in eating out. some people spend that much every 2 days. Hi quality food can extend your dogs life and keep his bones and heart healthy.. any 30lbs bag of dog food that is under $50 is questionable and most likely has chicken meal, and grains and fillers in it.

I went through multiple cheaper brands then moved up to what I thought was good food like Blue buffalo and Eukanuba,, but those are only rated 2-3 star our of 5 stars by most studies.
For Pits I would recommend Canidae. (no grains)
for other breeds Wellness and EVO are amazing.
those are 4 and 5 star foods.

We're ALL expensive when we get older with medications and illnesses, so they aren't too different That really is a shame about the one's eye and the operation not being a success, I bet he compensates for it well though.

He was in pain for a while but it seems like it impacted us more than him. He seems fine with the situation now that there is no more pain. They seem to recover and deal with stuff better than humans.

Of course there is- a completely raw food diet you buy at a local meat market.

Which means chicken liver or boneless chicken (raw) a cracked egg (shell and all) look up certain vegetables that are complimentary to your dog (I use a small amount of carrots) and brown rice once a week. With every bowl, a table spoon of organic olive oil and apple cider vinegar for natural omegas/antibodies

Dry food/canned food is the worst you can give your pet. It's like you and I eating mcdonalds every day. Put aside society's way of thinking if you're pro vegan/vegetarian (not saying OP is or isn't) but dogs are natural carnivores.

Based on what? When I read the list of ingredients and nutritional information on the dry food I see nothing to be worried about, when I read the list of ingredients and nutritional information at McDonalds I don't see the same.

Then, 9 years later my dog is the correct weight, doctor says he is healthy and we shouldn't change anything. Pretty sure me eating McDonalds for 9 years straight would show different results.

First off anything canned is cancer causing.. BPA/preservatives..etc.. then if its processed means its highly carcinogenic and unhealthy AF>

Sorry to hear about your dog. Do you mind if I ask what brand of flea and tick you used? I try to minimize the use of it, but if the tick population is bad I'll use frontline. It's weird putting a neurotoxin on the dogs, but figured the risk of it against lyme disease it is worth it.
