Hi Mark,
Sounds like an earthing issue, was common on the pre 2005 cars (E46 etc). The aerial wiring and demister wiring share the same location. As your car's a 58 plate it'd get it looked at under warranty. the 20i petrol is an engine to avoid due to reliability issues. Don't know if your 18i is the same engine but detuned. This is the case for 20d and 18d respectively |

My M3 has had this fault a couple of times in the past week or so.
Only first thing in the morning tho' when really cold. All the radio stations on the idrive disappear leaving maybe just radio 1 and a local station. Trying to listen to either of them however is useless as they sound like the aerial has been unplugged. Get in the car later on in the day and all is back to normal radio station list has repopulated with 20-30 stations and radio becomes crystal clear again? Has happened 2 or 3 times now but always rectifies itself. I used to run LED DRL's and these caused interference but have since removed them and popped the OEM bulbs back in so know it isn't those causing the problem. |

Looks like my car is suffering this - rear demister on, radio reception is mostly hiss. Turn it off and radio back to normal. Pretty sure this is covered under extended warranty - so will get it booked in. Also, a couple of peeps have said i sound very echo-ey and faint on the phone. Maybe releated as well

If you tuned in the FM station on preset 1 from your last journey, but when you get in this time the reception is bad, press the 1 button to re-tune it to the currently tuned station. Make no logical sense but works for me when ever the reception get's a bit bad. hth. sp |
