CIC Firmware Version and firmware Upgrade

I recently picked up a full CIC set with Combox Telematics all out of the same 2011 BMW 335i. Im waiting for my emulator to come in to get it going, but I want to make sure all the software/firmware is correct before I start coding.

Does anyone know what version CIC firmware is needed (as well as how to check it) to allow for non-fsc BMW Apps? Can this be upgraded or downgraded accordingly?

Also, should I recode my VIN into the combox and CIC or leave the donor VIN...benefits of each?

Hi mate
Ive been told a minimum of c13 and a maximum of c16 but i don't know how true this is. If you search though you'll find many threads about this but rarely does anyone get the question answered and post a decisive THE ANSWER IS XYZ...

Once its in you'll need an icom interface to update but i think that you can update via usb. The usb file that you're likely to find though is c16 and will need an fsc code to update maps et al.

What I've just typed could be completely wrong though its just my interpretation of what I've read

you can upgrade only maps via CIC usb socket and combox firmware via armrest usb socket
you cannot upgrade CIC via USB

So I guess first off, would it be better to code the CIC and Combos to my VIN or leave it the VIN of the donor car? Advantages and disadvantages?

I actually did the complete retrofit and coding myself using various bits of info I found scattered across the internet. Its not that bad, just a lot of wrong info out there.

I've had a crack myself but don't know if I was doing the right thing because I later found out that the combox I bought was faulty. Soon as I swapped a mates box in it started working. If you post up a guide I would be grateful!

what kind of issues were you having with the combox? I can pretty much point you in the direction you need to go if your having problems with it.

If you mean the armrest one, you need to make sure the pinouts are right going to the combox harness (certain ones are for the armrest USB, Aux and Snapin cradle) and then the black Fakra is for the USB and the Blue Fakra is for the Snap Cradle or the USB hub if you are doing the whole "use your iphone via USB and not the cradle" thing. To do that though you need a different USB/Aux out of Mini Cooper I think it is, that way you combine 6FL and 6NF into the same USB plug...I havent done that myself mind you, just read thats how its done.

Yeah but that doesn't explain why when I tried a mates combox it worked in my car? Do you have any links to any pinout info for cradle and USB. I haven't heard about combining things ala mini

So i recently received a new combox and the usb and lots of other cool stuff is now working but its not exactly as i would like it to be
i did find a PDF guide to coding and I've attached it. I would say leave it all alone VIN number wise( i did) and see if it works.
my "journey" as i like to call it is here

Didn't understand this:

"To do this, first you need to find the number of wines such a vehicle. I will not give away tasting rooms, but I will give a hint. Some BMW dealers publish tasting rooms available cars on their websites. We assume that you have found the "right" VIN"

Can you elaborate? What the heck are tasting rooms? Where can you find a russian VIN? Will there be no conflict between my VIN and the "russian" VIN?

Bad translation program....

Substitute showroom for tasting room, and VIN for Wine.

Both are logical mistakes.

About First question answer details to have without Fsc:
Internet and Bmw online need CIC.c13 version and for combox c.mediar05 one.
About BMW Apps it is CIC.C16

Above needs FSC and is 800€.

BUT: today downgrade to V41 isn't mandatory as a patch is on the air, allowing all what you want with the last upgrade (mandatory to patch right place).
