!@#$en Bird Shit

stupid birds took a shit on my car yesterday, i go to clean em off since the car was washed the day before... i go there is this big one sitting above tha right door (not the hood the thing in between) so i spray it down with nano wax since it usually makes it more easy to clean and wiped it off with those towels for those wax sprays and SCRATCH, i went and bought this meguiors scratch fix... just made it look a little less visible and now im stuck i think i have to get it buffed out.

Birds eat small grit an pebbles which are very abrasive. I've had it etch my paint in the shape of the bird dropping a couple times - this is with multiple coats of Zaino. I now top my Zaino with Carnauba for an extra layer of protection.

I know it's too late and it may seem obvious now but always moisten it and blot it away. Try not to ever wipe.

NO DON'T. DO NOT USE RUBBING COMPOUND. REPEAT AFTER ME. DO NOT USE RUBBING COMPOUND.

Rubbing compound is pretty darn abrasive and should not be recommended to an inexperienced detailer IMO. RC by hand can definitely induce marring, hazing, etc.. I would not use it by hand personally. I don't know how you can recommend rubbing compound before even seeing a picture of the scratch.

Rule of thumb to live by:
Always use the least aggressive pad/chemical and work your way up as needed. You do not need to use a sledgehammer when a simple hammer will do the job.

3M Rubbing compound is safe. I've used it many times and my car's finish is perfect. There is plenty of info out there...just do a search.

3M rubbing compound is not really "rubbing compound." It may be marketed as such but it really isn't.

Quote:
Here’s your antidote for the mildly neglected car. 3M’s most versatile rubbing compound is aggressive but safe against fine scratches (grade 1200 or finer), light to medium oxidation, pesky water spots and coarse swirl marks. The super-fine cut abrasive wears down sharp edges and smoothes out the paint’s surface, preparing it for a polish or glaze, followed by a protective wax.
Again, I would be hesitant to recommend ANY aggressive product before seeing the offending scratch. What if he bought some other more aggressive rubbing compound and came back with marring? Thanks for clarifying your product though.

For bird crap, fold half a paper towel into a square and soak it with water, then lay it on top of the bird crap. Let it sit there for 10-15 minutes. It softens the crap enough to lift it right off with no scratching.

Then you can follow up with QD if you are so inclined, to get rid of any that may remain, as well as the water drips from the paper towel.

BTW - I've posted this before, and people thought I was saying use a paper towel to clean it off, but I'm not. Just soak it and let it sit on it. Don't rub the paper towel on the paint.

Yeah that's fixed easily, it'll take them 15 mins max. If they don't rewax the area make sure you do it.

I did this last week with a bird drop on the hood. There is still a stain on it though. Any recommendation on how to get it off? Im thinking a detail should be able to do it.

I've had a couple where there is still some stain/residue even after clearing it off, but clay bar took it off at the next wash. I clayed, then re-Zainoed the area.

Some people have had to resort to stronger measures than clay, though. There are a few suggestions here in this forum for residue that remains -- try clay first, and if that doesn't work then something like Scratch-X or Meguiars Cleaner Wax, and if that doesn't work, then you may need a buffing.
