That sounds like you need to update the bluetooth software on the head unit, not coding. On mine I ran those updates over the air through the ATM.
Head over here and punch in the VIN of your EVO donor car (or any 2017/2018 car) and see if you can find the update: https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html

Will all FSC still be active after update, even if some of them not were active to donor car?

Yes the FSC should be fine, the UPD updates only touch the bluetooth/connectivity software component, and don't touch anything else. I ran it on my M4 radio with non-factory carplay FSC and it worked fine. It is a generic file, not specific to your VIN.

In the release notes it mentions that if anything in the bluetooth doesn't work right after the update, just go to communications settings and turn off bluetooth then turn it back on.

No luck so far...….

I download the update file(UPD09042) to root of a FAT32 formatted USB-stick. And first of all the car did not have "software update" listed in iDrive menu, so i did some coding:

SOFTWARE_UPDATE_MANAGER = aktiv
SOFTWARE_UPDATE_ASSISTANT = aktiv
SWUP_ENABLE_SW_UPDATES = aktiv
SWUP_ASK_CONF_ENABLED = aktiv

Now i have "Software Update" at iDrive menu. But when i select "update from USB" i got message: "Software on USB device incompatible with this device"

I have current version installed, TB-006.032.012, MB-006.032.012
And the update version i download from donor car VIN are, TB-001.062.032 & MB-001.062.040 & HB-001.062.032(i don't know what HB stand for?)

I add FSC for Carplay, BMW Apps & Text to speech yesterday, and did some coding.

The "Text to speech" work fine, but now i have problem to pair phone with CarPlay & BMW Apps. I have tested it with 4 different phones (iPhone: 5S, SE, 11, 11). Only Bluetooth audio & Bluetooth handsfree are pairing, and work almost perfect except that i don't could end phonecalls from car.

I download owner manual from BMW, and have done the pairing exact ”by the book”. The funny thing is that phone think Carplay is paired when i check "info" about Bluetooth connection with car. I can change what icon shows to screen etc. But when i look at Bluetooth connection in car, it say that "This device support Carplay. If you whant to use Carplay on this device, delete this connection and pair it with Carplay."

BMW Apps, i don't have at menu at all. But i don't know if i need ATM module for that?


I do not know if this is the same problem as before(With end phonecalls), or whether this is a new one? Just coding?

Finally, I got phone calls, carplay & BMW Apps to work great. Everything was due to faults in the FA.

So now I wonder if it is possible to install a used ATM module in my car?

Hey, what is the exact way of flashing NBT EVO on bench? I've tried to do it just like @dis said (biggest timeouts, setFlashMode in esys transmitter) but NBT goes into the blue screen for a few seconds and goes back to normal state. The error is conditionsNotCorrect (I don't have DVD in my drive nor any USB connected). Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind, it just randomly worked about 4 hours of trying. idk.
EDIT2: But it looks like it's flashing through UDS...

I successfully flashed NBT to 2018-07 istep. I did it because after applying USB BIN patch the FSC codes only worked for few minutes - navi was asking for usb with activation code, and after few minutes it greyed out (flash was usb patch seller's idea). Surprise, it didn't work and it still the codes are being rejected after a few minutes. Please help, I'm battling FSC for two weeks now. First, I bought FSC repair pack for ATM VIN that I got and tried to import them but couldn't because of INVALID FSC CREATION DATE (even tho nbt evo was from 17/06 and atm 18/06 so the fsc codes from atm donor should be newer). Now, the USB BIN patch is not working and I really don't know what to do anymore.

Sorry for writing a post under post, but I eventually got everything in NBT EVO itself working and now I have problem with ATM. They don't seem to communicate. I connected it as was stated in this thread earlier, checked for continuity and proper pinout - everything seems OK, yet on service menu everything about GPS is ----, and update bmw services is greyed out. any way to check if atm is working or anything without getting a ZGW?

Thanks a lot for all the info in this thread. It convinced me to do my own nbt retrofit for my e91. There is just one thing I'm not sure about. How did you power the H&K amp.
Did you run seperate lines to the 2-pin quare connector?
Or is it possible to power it with pin 10 and 20 on the speaker terminal and short pin 1 and 2 on the most connector like with the cic amps?

I used the 2-pin square connector for power on my HK amp.
I didn't run separate lines, I cut the pin 10 and 20 wires from the cic amp plug and spliced them to the wires on the power connector that i'd cut out of a junk yard car.

It would probably work fine with pin 10 and 20 for power, though I haven't tested that.

I did find that I had to remove the mini 4-pin power connector that is part of the fiber optic plug (which is apparently because I used the fiber connection for a cd changer, instead of one for the CIC amp). That connection caused a big spark and a bunch of smoke to come out of my HK amp.

Then I will go with the 2 pin connector too. Don't plan on trading my $500 amp that is already bench flashed an coded for the knowledge if it can be connected the old way. The connector and clamps aren't that expensive .

I have some questions on the NBT EVO retrofit (F48 though, not E90)

1. What is the difference between "silver top" and "black top" EVO units and why do they matter?
2. Why wouldn't I just get an NBT EVO unit that has the GPS port on the back instead of that + ATM module + rewiring?
