2009 335i USB Video Coding

Has anyone coded their 335i to play videos form the USB? I have read posts,but it seems to be hit or miss. Any info is appeciated.

e9x cannot play video from headunit
it is only possible to connect iphone 5 analog video output and initiate video playback from iphone
